Why not. Makes more sense to believe in real things, things that, as you say, provide light, warmth, life, than some 'God' that simply does not exist outside the mind.
Religion is an interesting subject actually, though I haven't read about it for years and years. I mean it's interesting to read about different religions around the world.
The one thing a belief should always be is tolerant, and major religions often aren't.
Any religion that is not tolerant of other religions, or of people within the religion (ie, homosexuality is condemned by the main religions), should be totally rejected as a
hate belief. Likewise religions that are controlling.
You don't have to pick one religion though, you can take whatever parts you like from each. Or don't believe in any and just live life 'naturally'. Nobody knows not to kill, or to treat others as they want to be treated because of religion, it's just basic human nature.
Just always think for yourself, and question everything.
Oh, BTW, don't waste your time on religious books like the Bible or Koran, just real a general book that gives the key points about different religions.
