    Not good IMO. However, they probably feel that there would be no one to take care of the child? Im sure they have some reason for this belief

        If the mother is a criminal especially a violent one, it might be safe to say they should not be allowed raise there children...

        Obviously unfit mothers, obviously bad policy.

                    Taking away the babies isn't fair to the babies either. The mother bond is tight, to break that could be arguably worse for the baby , both mentally and physically . Giving breaks for them( moms) seeing as how the judicial process is lengthy almost invites women to have babies while awaiting sentencing to avoid jailtime thus compounding the problem.

                    Perhaps less hard rules, more case by case discretion.
                    Sorry, parents in prison do not get to spend time with their kids, and that's that. If you get knocked up in prison or otherwise have a baby in prison, you spit out the kid, and then right back to prison.

                    Same thing with fathers. They don't let fathers see their babies when they are in prison. On one hand that's why some kids are so fucked up - no parents. Then again, I've seen lots of kids just as fucked up with two good parents.

                        I say it's better they spend time with their mothers during their early years. The bonding is important for the mother and her rehabilitation and the child's development.
