Avoiding the logistical nightmare that would have come with bringing him to trial alone was worth the two bullets they put inside the guy.

Saying that he was unarmed prevents him from going down in the blaze of fire that he promised he would go down in if faced with capture. Instead he stood there and was taken down like the dog he was.
