Not really a waste. This type of domains earn shit loads just by parking. And there is no hassle of handling development, hosting, up-keep, update, market blah blah.. then, why not park and wait to be offered millions?
PS: but ya, page could be made custom for better CTR and fucking speed of loading could be increased someway. lol

Domains like that get tons of type-in traffic from all over the world.
So a surfer from say Russia gets sold on Miami hotels in English?

Not realy a waste???Take a look at alexa traffic stats and you will see it's BIG WASTE.
I keep hearing about how a domain like that makes "tons" just by staying parked, but does anyone have any kind of proof or figures or examples? or even knowledgable speculation?

They must have some geographical filtering going on. I'm in Canada and I see cyberagemodes.com - no signs of any Miami hotels or anything even resembling that. They probably figured that Europeans don't pay for sex anyway, so why waste their website space on them :D

i would be seriously skeptical of it making over 100K a month with a parked page only considering that i know exactly what sex.net makes with a parked page.
is that "tons" of money? depends on what anyone thinks the value of that traffic is and their ability to monetize it. had it been converted to an adult dating/cam site when Gary took it over again instead of a retarded PPC engine without the traffic to support it, it would be netting over a million a month by doing nothing.

Never underestimate the value of parking domains, it definitely makes more than 100k with parking, PleasurePays, so your math is a bit off. Its hard to compare the .net to the .com but I know the numbers for the .net, there is a vast difference. If anyone wants a better idea, check out domaintools.com and type in the two domains to see the difference in rank and traffic.
The North American traffic currently takes you to a Cyberage ad and the intl traffic is parked. We will be making changes over the coming weeks, some will hit sooner than others, but all for the better.
I am very excited with some of the stuff we have planned. Will keep you all posted.

of course there is a vast difference between the .net and the .com for typein traffic. however, that "difference" in typins for generic words between the .net and .com is a pretty static range and i know the value of the clicks for the parked page. its not rocket science.
It's far too complex to create a web page Marc - forget trying to comprehend the basic fundamentals of business/economics.
Evidently. In my mind's eye, I can picture someone somewhere in the world unpacking their new pc/laptop and going online for the first time - and probably going straight to www.sex.com.
I shudder to think of the sales that one of our geo-ip banners on there would generate.
Selling US hotel rooms to type-in surfers from around the world in conjuction with the ulimate domain in adult to me makes no business sense at all.
However, as WonderWoman points out, that's all set to change

are you totally new to the interweb or what?
I am not new to the interweb nor do you need to explain the rocket science to me. I happen to know the numbers behind sex.com for parking which is why I was correcting you. I assure you it is more than 100k. For the matter of the hotel kws showing up, that falls back on the current optimizer that is being used. Between changes at Google/Yahoo and the different parking solutions people use, numbers can greatly vary.
