Who would you approach if you had a VERY good idea?

Who would you approach if you had a VERY good idea for a webservice? that would work across every website, blog or community out there, giving the webmasters a tool to keep the surfer on the sites longer, and giving them a brand new way of making money with no banners.

Problem is it will proberly cost above $5+ mill to develop, contracts, deposits ect.

I'd tell an envelope sealed in a safe deposit box + a US patent. Then I'd tell a bank. If that didn't work I'd tell angel investor group(s).

yeah - banks here don't like to invest in things that are virtual unless you have a lot of hardware for security. I have thought of the Business-Angel networks myself

The ability to execute is worth a lot more than the best of ideas.

I would start with the patent office.
Then just license the idea to whomever develops it, seems to work for Acacia and others.

Question: Is it possible for a Non-US citizen to get a patent in the US without creating a company with a US presence?

The point was that if the only think you bring to the table is an idea you're pretty useless to a business and therefore there's nothing you can do with a good idea but give it away.

Send the idea to me, if it works, I'll cut you in for a %.

patent and trademark first, show some sort of prior usage and art and such, then hit a bank, i surely wouldnt talk to people in the adult web about an idea.

You talk as if getting a patent is free and easy. It costs a ton of money and if you don't do it right it's worthless (it's often worthless anyway).

According to the US patent office you can patent in idea right now.

A patent is not expensive at all.
Doing it right is just a matter of filling in the paper work properly, or yes you could spend the cash and have someone else do it for you.

It is about just as hard as getting incorporated.

You obviously don't know much about litigation. Getting a patent registered isn't hard (though it does take several years). But having a patent portfolio that will actually provide you with legal protection against competition is a whole different ballgame.

I would bring it to Steve Lightspeed. He's one of the smartest peeps in the industry and one of the few I would trust with such an idea.

...and we're down to the very same thing - one cannot know everything, but you can hire people to supplement where you're lacking. Once again - the ability to execute is the simplest of things when there's sufficient funds. You can have the best know how in the world, but if you have no funds to let the world know about it, you will take your knowhow with you to the grave. It's as simple as that - the ability to execute is the simplest of things when there's sufficient funds.
