You can trick Alexa into giving you a higher rating by joining one of those alexa traffic exchange/autosurf sites where everyone uses the alexa toolbar. THe more people to your site using the toolbar, the higher your alexa rating.

alexa is fucked

i have one site getting 230k uniques/day and another one getting 6-7k uniques/day

and the small one is 1/2 the rank on the alexa scale...the traffic remains the same and yet the rank just keeps going higher...so its pretty fucked

Or just advertise the alexa toolbar to your surfers... push it on them, and you will get your rank inflated... by a lot.

Thats why you should always look at other tools to gauge the worth of a site, though they may not necessarily be any more accurate than Alexa. Compete.com and quantcast.net are two other good ones.

I had a site that maybe had 20 hits a week and my rank was in the 400,000-500,000 range. Unless your rank is down in the 5 digits or less, it doesnt mean a whole hell of a lot.

Until you get around the 50k range, you can fudge it a bit with toolbars. Once you break that top 50k, you're in the 20k a day range plus. Alexa has matched the traffic trends on Shermsshack.com to a T.
