It seems flash now can install trojans

    http://www.computerweekly.com/Articl...-user-data.htm

A new way of counting affiliate sales is needed and it's needed now!

The old way with link codes and cookies are very doomed - these guys are way smarter than the average webmaster.. and right now they're expanding the way they spread their shit.. it's a matter of time before every single fucking users is in their control - as well as our sales

We need some technical brains who can figure out a new bulletproof way to count affiliate sales

    But I guess it's impossible..

if you can code it, someone can code away around it...

but yes, affiliates are majorly threatened by outside sources right now, there does need to be some action taken in finding a way to protect the affiliate model at this time. i for one would like to see this happen, still being one of the little guys, i not any other webmaster, can afford or should be forced to afford this type of loss...

it can be done but you need some effort from your affs. they will have to submit every page their sending traffic from.

How does it have anything to do with Flash? It could have been a thousand other scripts on the site or computer doing it.

This has NOTHING to do with Flash! computerweekly should be shot for this stupid article!

Its a torjan which is sent via email or instant messages or the like as any other trojan is! The difference is that it claims to be a youtube video and when you run it it actually OPENS a youtube video!! But does more shit in the background...

Thats it.. watch the clip on youtube linked at the bottom of the article.

There is still a need to track affiliate sales in different ways, the estimated daily number of installs is more than scary and the result will be the same as you predicted...there is already a mayor part of traffic infected.

It won't take long until the first programs (not just affiliates) suffer from it as well...because affiliates drop them for bad conversions. Once the affiliate traffic dies, the traffic with the changed affiliate IDs dies as well and the program is fucked.

That's the exact part I think programs owners just don't realize yet...

The only way to track affiliates securely is to not rely on data coming from the browser, only on data coming from the server since spyware can not alter that. So the only way would be to track via the ip address.

Problem with the ip address is that it still changes for a high percentage very regularly even during a browser session...
