    New 7.4 quake off Sendai, Japan

    Bam, getting rocked again. USGS map actually shows two 7.4 quakes 41 seconds apart. Tsunami warning issued.

                                          A 1m (3 feet) tsunami still can fuck some shit up. It's not the height, it's the force behind it. I read that just a few inches can move cars and trucks.

                                                  Yes and a tsunami is usually a series of waves and subsequent waves could be bigger.

                                                          After the 9.0 last month this was probably just a bumpy ride for them. Take a look at this vid of the skyscrapers swaying in tokyo during the march quake. The sound in the second vid is freaky. In the 3rd vid look out the window during the quake. Nuts!

                                                                      "Japan was rattled by a magnitude-7.4 aftershock Thursday night nearly a month after a devastating earthquake and tsunami flattened the northeastern coast."

                                                                      an aftershock? 7.1 is a big earthquake...or at least it used to be.

                                                                                          Japan is well prepared for earthquakes and small tsunamis. They routinely get hit with them a few times a year.

                                                                                          Just two days before the 9.0 they were hit with a 7.2 on March 9th with minimal damage. There was no media attention given to it, nor is there rarely ever (that is until now, after the biggest quake in recorded Japanese history hit).

                                                                                          It gives you an idea just how big that March 11th quake was though. Each point measures an amplitude 10 times larger, so an 8.0 is 10 times more destructive than a 7.0 and a 9.0 would be 10 times more destructive than a 8.0.

                                                                                          It also goes to show you can NEVER be prepared for when mother nature deals a blow like that. Japan is way more prepared than any other country for earthquakes and tsunamis, yet they were left in ruins after the March 11th quake.
