contrary to most peoples beliefs there is a huge number of gun owners in Canada. You just have to go through security checks before you can get the license to make sure you don't have any criminal or psycological problems. Also we are allowed to own hand guns up here but the barrel just has to be 4 inches or longer so that it's not easily concealed and it can't be an automatic. Those are the only major differences I can think of. Oh, we are not allowed to own guns such as a .50 cal(wish I could) or flame throwers and such.Comment

Nope, you can still buy pistols; they did ban most assualt rifles though such as an AR-16 and AK-47's. As you probably know it doesn't take much to convert one too fully automatic. I think they also outlawed large clips such as a banana clip and such. It's no biggie though as those guns have no real use other then killing.Originally posted by Evil1

In Nevada if you purchase from a private owner, which I did at the gun show last weekend you don't need to fill out any forms or show any id. Private owner transfer
In case you were wondering it's an Ak-47 w/Dragonov stock, bipod, bayonet, 30 rd clip. Yes it's a machine gun and yes if I wanted it to be it can be easily converted to fully automatic.Comment

Two things I thought I would add,
1. I've purchased MANY guns from dealers in the past, all pistols required a permit in MI (before I moved to Vegas) and rifles required a background check.
2. I was shocked that all I had to do was hand over the cash at the gun show and the gun was mine from a private owner, at the next table was the book to convert it to fully automatic, next to him was a vendor selling 75 round drum magazines and a couple more tables away I could buy cases of ammunition, ALL without anyone checking anything. I would say that the US is by FAR the easiest place to get a weapon capable of doing some serious damage and it's quite scary how easy it is to get, do I enjoy that freedom, of course I do, but I also realize that the definte wrong types of people could be picking up weapons in these places.Comment

An AK-47 is not a machine gun. What you bought is a semi-automatic assault rifle. An AK-47 can be full automatic but would be illegal (and the semi automatic version is also illegal in many states, as well as the thirty shot clip). It still would not be a machine gun. It would be a full automatic assault rifle. The AK-47 is the most common assault rifle in the world.

i went to canada recently to go clubbing, and i saw a lot more fights then i do in the states on an average friday night, but everyone walked away and went home. but the people up there are a lot more friendly, cause they arent scared the next person who walks up to them is going to be some freak wierdo that is going to jack them with a gun, unfortunately most americans feel that fear on a daily basis. else so many of them wouldnt be paranoid junkies and tote guns around everywhere. because you all know if you cap someone in your house or on the street chances are very high you will spend a few nights in jail while it gets sorted out. and if you know anything about american judicial stuff that could take a very very long time, and you might even be convicted of a crime even if it is self defense. which in washington state is very hard to prove.
