I just installed Word Press but I'm not too sure if I like it or not. What are your opinions? Is there anything out there better than Word Press?

When I first started up my blogs back in the fall i was in love with babelogger, and I HATED WORDPRESS. I just fucking hated it. But the fact of the matter is, that wordpress is fucking great. There is just so much you can do with wordpress it's unbelievable, the possibilities are endless, and there are a whack of plugins and themes available. it may seem a little strange and uncomfortable to begin with, but you'll adjust to it, and love it soon enough... -
Wordpress, man! I used to use serendipity but for just SHEER VARIETY of plugins and a huge GLOBAL SUPPORT GROUP--go with WP.Comment

WordPress lets you make the same cookie cutter blog as everybody else. TextPattern lets you make it different, and has a myriad of really neat shit, but it still lags behind WordPress in plugins due to the lack of popularity.

it's only as cookie cutter as you want to make it. I've seen some people do incredibly creative things with wordpress. it's just a matter of looking into what you want to do. just how much room is there for variation in the blog format anyways? lolWordPress lets you make the same cookie cutter blog as everybody else. TextPattern lets you make it different, and has a myriad of really neat shit, but it still lags behind WordPress in plugins due to the lack of popularity.

This is very true, but hacking the display for not showing specific fields, changing the default, and the whole thing is 100% CSS wrapped in TXP. TXP lets you edit down to the small field how you want the topics laid out.
These are piss poor examples, I'll admit, but ToonPornBlog, GrouchyAdmin, and Erratic Wisdom all run the same core, and take little work to change between the styles, with the same backend.
TXP also supports XMLRPC so you can use any XMLRPC capable program to post blogs to it - and it doesn't suffer from the various issues WordPress has had over the years.
I've used WP, and I think it's decent. I just like how you can break everything apart in TXP with less work. ;)Comment

Grouchy, you are speaking from a coders point of view. Most mortal people don't need as much flexibility as you are discussing.
You can get ANYTHING you could rationally want done in Wordpress. It's great, simple, software.I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

I've been using textpattern for well over a year now and am very happy with it, We have around 30 sites running it atm and love it. It does lag a bit in plug-ins but there is a growing userbase and I'm sure it is only going to get better.WordPress lets you make the same cookie cutter blog as everybody else. TextPattern lets you make it different, and has a myriad of really neat shit, but it still lags behind WordPress in plugins due to the lack of popularity.
