A WOMAN was found dead on a Sydney property after being mauled by the family's pack of crossbreed dogs.
The 61-year-old woman was discovered by one of her sons slumped inside a fenced compound at the family's Maraylya poperty, near Windsor yesterday.
Police said the woman suffered multiple dog bites and died at the scene after being attacked by up to 14 dogs ? all crossbreeds of wolfhound, greyhound and mastiff varieties.
A post mortem was being conducted today to determine exactly how she died. The woman's husband told The Daily Telegraph, the family was in shock over the tragedy.
"We don't really know what happened...she was home by herself," said the husband, who left the family property at 10.30am and has been at the police station since.
"I don't want to speculate or talk about it...it's early days." The husband refused to comment on the dogs.
Asked whether the dogs' breed was an issue, he replied: "I don't want to say to much." The family was holding up. "We're okay the family's all together," he said.
The property, on Neich Rd, remained a crime scene today with all but three of the family's 14 dogs impounded. The 11 dogs were at a Hawkesbury animal shelter, where they were expected to remain for at least 24 hours, but police expect them to be destroyed.
"It is anticipated all 11 dogs will be put down once the needs of the investigation and the wishes of the Coroner have been addressed," police said in a statement.
A police spokesman said the woman suffered bite wounds to much of her body. It was unclear how long she was dead before she was discovered by one of her son's. Police said the woman and her husband had kept a large number of dogs at the property over many years.
A report will be prepared for the information of the NSW Coroner. Police will hold a press conference at 1.30pm.
