    Who knows CPR?

I've went back to school, and am in a pre-massage therapy program. One of the things I have to have before full admittance is community cpr certification.

I'm going to the first of two classes for it tonight, and am kind of apprehensive about it. Anyone here got their certification? If so, what are the classes like?

Edit: For the curious amongst us, no I am not leaving JaYMan Cash, and no, I am not leaving adult. But for the day that I do, I want to do something where I still have the ability to work for myself. This will meet that need.

Yup, took a course before we had our child... figured it would be good to know.
We'll take it again pretty soon just for a refresher. Especially with another one on the way.

Red Cross sponsored? Basically you just read the booklet, watch a few videos and practice on the Annie dummy. Once all that is done, should be a written and a practical test.

It's not a difficult program to complete.

        Spend you some brain.

I hadn't read that before. Many congrats to you and your wife, Stuart.

I'm afraid of letting Annie die.

I took the course years ago. The dummie's chest is harder to move than you think. Nothing scary though.

Yeah... thanks for reminding me that I need to get recertified.

the message therapy classes you're taking are probably more involved than CPR certification.

They teach you how to find the "sweet spot" for chest compressions, and how to properly breath into someone's lungs.

After that, it's just a matter of remembering how many chest compressions to how many breaths. You'll be fine.

I did a first aid and cpr course last month, the cpr section has changed alot since i last did it
good thing to get updated on, also learnt the stats on how many people come out of recieving cpr normal, and how many become veggies. I'd suggest not looking this up if you have kids.

Worth having and the classes are easy. CPR is the easy one. The First aid classes are a bit more of a pain in the ass.

I used to be cerified regularly. No need these days, but I still remember how to save a life if I felt so inclined.

the biggest changes are the rate of compressions to breaths.

It's been decided that its more important to compress than to breath while you wait for the paramedics to arrive. That pumping the oxygen in the blood around is key. So they upped the compressions to breaths from 15-2 to 30-2.

And if you were/are afraid to give mouth to mouth due to it being a stranger and maybe catching a disease or something, that you can do a ton of good just by doing the compressions and not doing any breaths at all while waiting for the paramedics.

CPR is the easiest one to get... At least compared to all the other first aid and lifesaving certs (Was a qualified lifeguard at some point).

My first job was as a lifeguard.. I have taken this class like 10 times (and the first aid also)... boring.. but informative. More people should take it.
