LOL yeah I am sure that is what happened with pirate bay and the other torrent sites. Pirate bay signed up, took some code and added it to their site. AVN knew nothing about this while they were at it they hacked avn's server and built that page you see on adbrite that promotes them selling piratebay traffic.

The fucked up thing is that some people will believe that when AVN use it as a excuse. Some people who call themselves webmasters have no idea how much attention a site with that amount of traffic gets. The person that landed the deal with those Pirats must have been jumping up and down in his seat with joy, and probably still do. They will properly remove them from their database at some point, but they will only do it at the last moment.

Bump for AVN! I would like to see them resolve this situation in an affiliate friendly fashion.

Barring that I wonder what the mainstream press would make of a story like this one, about a company that has
at least until now been generally considered an industry leader.

Hopefully it is only a matter of time until the torrent sites are so overcome with spam and malware that surfers will stop using them. Hmm I wonder if there is any way to speed up that process.

Haven't gotten around to putting it on my public shitlist yet, but rest assured it will end up there.

I think that this thread is the total proof of AVN's arrogance and total lack of regard for the online business. We are but a profit center, nothing more, nothing less.

We are treated like mushrooms - kept in the dark and fed shit.

No such thing. The "industry leader" AVN has a history of fucking over everyone in the industry for an extra buck any chance they get. Isn't it about time they got dethroned? This would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Good point. Anyone got any contacts with mainstream press so they can run a story?

Will - all that stuff you mention is automated....its approved automatically and there is no human oversight.

i'm not saying they haven't been informed of the situation. they've got to be full aware what their highest traffic advertisers are doing...my point is that any site can be listed there with no restrictions, rules, etc...

Adbrite screwed me over, they obviously employ people who click on their ads all day, I was having hundreds of clicks on my site a day, but they weren't staying more than 1 second, and they were from countries all over the world, so I stopped my campaign with them and never looked back

Saying that, I will speak to them about whether or not they should be associated with a torrent site and hopefully come to a resolution. It is probably just a case of not monitoring inventory close enough.

AVN ADS Pirate bay ads for sale. So when you pulling it ?

All this avn ads / adbrite talk has me so confused and the two companies are so intermingled, I can't remember which one does adult or mainstream and which was was orginally selling pirate bay.

And of course the spot is still being advertised.

Not that it surprises me any, just FYI.

Should I let AVN know that this adbrite person is trying to hijack my browser so they can report him to the authorities?

AVN has an ownership position, and as owners and supposed leaders in the industry, you folks need to either step up to the plate or deal with the fallout.

They are most certainly NOT owned, co-owned, operated, or affiliated beyond any AFFILIATION IN NAME. AVNAds and AVN are 2 entirely unique separate companies that do not operate under the same management or share any money on balance sheets. Know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

Quit being so self-righteous when you're just not as successful at the sins, you hypocrites.

I'll be honest, I'm a bit confused... here are the facts:

                                                                        1) AVNAds is a co-brand of Adbrite for AVN. That means it uses AVN's corporate image but actually is Adbrite
                                                                        2) The system uses the same exact database, because it makes it 50 times easier to maintain the systems together in terms of updates and such
                                                                        3) The only difference (apart from the design) in both systems are the categories that are displayed in the directory.
                                                                        4) AVN sucks torrent sites and the like kill the industry
                                                                        5) AVN probably makes good $$ with the AVNAds system, NOT off torrent sites obviously though, since they are not in the ADULT category that AVNAds has (which does not exist in Adbrite)

Now people see that Adbrite actually sells advertising on torrent sites and similar. They think, wait, AVNAds is the same backend, lets look for that on AVNAds, and of course they find it. Why? Because its (as I said above) the same database that powers both sites (thats a cobrand, btw). The freeform search also returns torrent sites, again, since its the same db. The DIRECTORY does not list them on AVNAds since the categories are simply not displayed on that cobrand.

AVN of course does not ACTIVELY work with torrent sites, but they do have a close partner which does.

So what exactly does everyone want AVN to do now? I want to understand that. I agree it sucks that adbrite has torrent sites in their system. But what exactly do you want AVN to do about it? Tell Adbrite to remove it? Ok, what if Adbrite says no? Should AVN stop the partnership with Adbrite? Or what exactly does everyone want done?
"Think about it a little more and you'll agree with me, because you're smart and I'm right."
