I was never really a big anime fan, but I've watched the odd one here and there. Ghost in the Shell, Armitage, that sort of thing. Seen a few others in the past. I just recently watched Paprika, which was kind of like Alice in Wonderland on way too much acid, but was a great watch. So I went on a little search lately for the weirdest shit I can find. Watched Dead Leaves, Serial Experiments Lain, and Tamala 2010 Punk Cat In Space. But I am searching for he absolute most twisted fucked up weird ass violent shit Japan can offer me here. I know they've got it in them. Any recommendations?

Ya, had a hard time finding a download for FLCL, but it does sound like a trip. A trip with an overly abundant amount of boobs in it...
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt was another I'd actually seen a review for on some site, but I never looked too deep into it because it just sounded like some Hentai shit. Maybe I'll give it another chance, didn't realize it was by the Dead Leaves people. Dead Leaves was awesome.

Last episode of Space Runaway Ideon is a classic violent episode where they killed off every character. You can find that on YouTube.
Elfen Lied combines the kawaii (cute) and the gore and actually has a good story. The first 15 minutes is amazing stuff. Ninja Scroll, the original movie is pretty sick, perverted with great action.

I was reading some top 10 list of weird animes and I can't remember the name now, but supposedly there was some series and that's how they decided to end, by going so over the top that the television wouldn't even air them anymore. That's one I could go for tracking down...

Space Runaway Ideon was not well received when it came out. It was not a good series at all. So when the decision came to cancel it, the creators decided to kill everyone off. A lot of the characters, especially the children died gruesome deaths. Watch for the decapitation. The ending also showed all of the characters as flying naked ghosts in space and that sequence was edited out.

Ya, Paprika was really something else. Downloaded it on a whim whil going through some "mindfuck" movie lists, and was really impressed. Trippy shit. I'm downloading Millenium Actress now, hope it's as good. The story was really good. Dead leaves i didn't even know what was going on, but I was sold on the absolute insanity. Mutant drill dicks, non-stop mutilation and gore, and some sort of immediate conception of a part robot baby that springs fromt he vagina guns in hand, then ages super fast and blows up a giant caterpillar, so they can escape a moon prison? Wut?

Didn't realize there was an animated version of Ichi the Killer. Might have to track that down too. I've been into the whole J-Horror genre for a while, just never dived too deep into the anime stuff.
I haven't seen anything else in your list, but I'll check them out. Finally found a decent download for FLCL, gonna go watch a couple episodes right now and see how that goes...Comment

The obvious first recommendation is Battle Royale, but that's like the first one everyone goes too. 1-Ichi, which is kind of a prequil to Ichi the Killer, explaining how Ichi becomes the killer.Some others I really like The Neighbor #13, Visitor Q, Audition (Really creepy shit), Gozu, Old Boy (Not actually Japanese, but definitely worth watching), Suicide Circle, Noriko's Dinner Table, Tokyo Gore Police, Meatball Machine, The Machine Girl, Assault Girls...

high school of the dead is one of the best animes ever made..i shit you not. Every episode is action packed,the storylines are tightly weaved and the animation is top notch. The manga is of course further along but definitely check it out...among my top 5 of all timeNice. I've gone through quite a few of the recommendations so far, but this has by far been the most warped yet. It doesn't even hit you just how fucked it really is until the last 2-3 episodes of the series. The story is very very good. It damn near squeezed tears. The English dubbing was kind of crap, but the story was enough to overlook it after a while.
No to sure sure the cute comes into play. Well, I guess a little bit with Nyu, but that was pretty minimal.
