Bump for AVN!
Come on AVN, you are a leader in ths industry, you and some of the other big players have the power to band together and make the industry tighter and stronger so that affiliates can feel comfortable promoting your wares and will want to make you tons of bucks.
It would be great if you big guys would come together to fight these sites that give so much content away for nothing.
Please don't make us feel like you are just going to pull the rug out from under us.Comment
-
A resolution is in the works now. I should have more information soon. Thanks for your patience.Comment
-
I hope your resolution is more than a shell game. If you shift it to only showing on adbrite, personally I really don't see a difference. Adbrite and AVN Ads are two closely related and in bed with each other.
Only resolution I think would make people feel good about AVN would be to remove all the torrent shit from both AVN and Adbrite, and please no more they are not the same company comments.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the fact that they didn't know they sold advertising on Pirate Bay. You're telling me they don't have any clue who they are doing business with? That is an outright lie and is an insult to everyone's intelligence. They just never expected to be called out on it and are now scrambling to do damage control, at which time they still probably admit to nothing.Comment
-
Our contacts at Adbrite have informed us that they have removed the ad from AVN Ads. If you do a search, you should no longer see The Pirate Bay.Comment
-
-
-
That still doesn't address the fact that they knew it was there and tried to play stupid. No one runs a business like that and fails to keep track of who they are in bed with. If anyone believes otherwise they are ignorant.Comment
-
Correct, but if you do a search, there should be no results coming back. Further, if you try to buy from this link, your ads will not run.
Still there for me http://www.avnads.com/mb/commerce/pu...php?opid=52286Comment
-
So what your saying is your not going to delete it out of your database, you have just removed the search term? I bet when this all dies down that link becomes active again, why isn't it removed completely?Comment
-
See previous post. AVN Ads = Adbrite runs operations, provides technology, AVN handles marketing.
The Pirate Bay account was brought to our attention when the previous thread on this topic was started and we moved to address the issue.
If anyone thinks I sit here and monitor every company that starts an account on AVN Ads, they would be incorrect. As in the past, when a questionable account has been brought to our attention we've taken steps to have it removed.
Comment
-
Good question. I don't want it there anymore than you do.
I was satisfied that it wasn't usable, but we'll see about getting it pulled completely.
Comment
-
no problem eh ? Just get Priate bay traffic from your "partners" at adbrite and AVN will keep writing articles about how torrent sites are killing the industry.

I gave you a solution. Isn't that what you wanted?
Or did you really not care about whether AVN Ads was running the ad at all, and just wanted to attack someone and get a lot of views?
I suggested to anyone who had an interest in this to contact me via ICQ and I would work with them or answer any questions, way back when you first posted about this. Did you do that?

AVN and Adbright are two different companies where AVN is simply using a cobrand of Adbright and marketing the same products/services under the AVN Ads label. Pretty much the same as a dating site using a cobrand but providing the same service on the backend. Even though they share the same backend, AVN is (trying) to get one of the records pulled. That to me seems more than enough.
If someone buys a pirate bay link from Adbright, I doubt AVN shares in the revenue generated. As far as AVN is concerned, they should be able to provide editorial review of the sites listed on AVN Ads, not Adbright.

Thats cool... it appears you want to take the Lars approach and try to discredit t he messenger, feel free to take your best shots but you might want to come up with something better then I am doing this for sig views

So you have no problem with them being "partners", sharing hosting, phone lines, etc... and AVN writing stories about how torrents are killing adult sites when it is their "partners" that is helping to kill adult sites ?
Wiredguy have you ever said anything bad about someone who makes more money than you or a big company ? ever, just one time. is it chance that you just happen to agree with all these people or is it that you feel it benefits you to kiss ass all the time ? honest question.Last edited by will76; 06-04-2007, 05:04 PM.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

Well, I'm trying to figure out what kind of solution you're trying to come up with. They pulled the ad from the search and trying to remove it from their database. Seems like a good solution to me. Why would they pull the ad from Adbright's database, its not their database. They're simply a cobrand, Adbright is providing the technology, customer service, etc.... Of course the phone numbers and servers are going to be the same, they're a cobrand of Adbright. That doesn't give AVN the ability to remove items from other databases, just their own.
And yes, I've bitched out ARS before in the past and its safe to say they make way more than I ever could.

I suggested to anyone who had an interest in this to contact me via ICQ and I would work with them or answer any questions, way back when you first posted about this. Did you do that?
A few things:
1) Your ICQ isn't posted here, so there is no way to get in touch with you. You might want to give some of your sig over to making yourself reachable if you really want to be reached.
2) You can slice the corporate names and responsiblities any way you like. At the end of the day AVNads and Adbrite run in the same places by the same people, potentially only with different partners at the top of each LLC. I know part of it was because Pud didn't want to get his hands dirty with porn, for fear he would lose his credibility with the mainstream people.
3) Your company's name, logo, and branding appear on these sites. Every account you open should get checked at some point. More on point, your company should have CLEAR AND COMPLETE POLICIES IN REGARD TO THESE SORTS OF SITES. Make policies, write the policies down, and take steps to enforcement PROACTIVELY, not reactively. If you want to pay me a decent wage, I will check each and every site that joins your program for you. All you have to do is ask and make an offer.
4) Can AVN clearly say that "torrent sites, warez sites, and other hack / stolen content / hotlinking sites are not permitted in our program, and we will terminate them on the spot?" I ask this because I can still buy ads on piratebay right now.
The reason this isn't done in private is because it needs to be public. AVN has the chance to use it's (semi) respected position in the community to set a standard that other companies will be measured against. You want to lead the industry? Start acting like leaders.
The challenge is laid at your feet. Will you pick it up and run with it, or will you join Lars is kicking dirty on the online industry and show your total lack of respect and regard for the copyright holders, programs and affiliates who would hard in honest way to make a living?
Now is your chance. What's it going to be?Comment

I don't care what they support or don't support. They could throat fuck my grandma for all I care, I just want them to fix their goddamn video and picture ads not working.
Fling.com doesn't steal your traffic and sales unlike some other dating companies. I promote them, and so should you!

You can dress it up all you like, it is still shit. I don't buy the shell game. They admitted they were "business partners". If they really have no say so in adbrite then they should cut business relations with a company that sells torrent traffic. It's not a cobrand, avn ads does the adult stuff, adbrite does the mainstream. It was set up that way because mainstream does not like to mix with adult and they needed to keep the two " companies" seperate. A cobrand would be selling the same shit under a different name. So where can the rest of us sign up for this cobrand. It very apparent is was set up this way to keep mainstream and adult seperate. How convenient that avn ads happened on the adult side and all the torrent stuff ended up on the adbrite side.
Like i said you don't see a problem with AVN Ads being "partners" with adbrite who sells tons of traffic from torrent sites but yet AVN is suppose to be an industry leader and goes to the extent to write article about torrents killing adult sites. I guess that sits well with you but not most people.
The whole shell game is realy getting fucking old. Anyone can go start another corporation and say thats not me.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

This is why this is such bullshit. You call the SAME number and ask to buy torrent ads on avn ads they will say no but its your lucky day !!!! you can buy pirate bay traffic on avn ad's partner site, adbrite. They still make the sale.
oh and the only reason i am here is for sig views, please click the link in my sig

Another award-winning thread will. Brilliant, as usual.
Hey, when you're right you're right. Can't argue with right.
Personally I'd like to see companies who are caught like this be just a tad apologetic instead of playing the "we're above you, we're aware of the problem, know your place, we're looking into it" card. The kind of company I want to do business with is the kind that can publicly admit they fucked up and then makes every effort to make it 100% right or as close to it as possible. Why? Because it's the fucking right thing to do do, that's why.

MJ,
Type in "torrent" in your search and look at all the sites that come up. I will save you the work and let you know there are 62 of them.
Not sure which ones are illegal and who is legit, but that should be someone over at AVNs job to find out. PirateBay.com was just one site mate... you guys have a lot of work to do.
AVN needs to check each and every one of those sites, one at a time, and if you can't get that done, you need to admit you are fucking the industry or close up shop. A list of banned words would be a nice addition as well. Torrent, leech, seed, warez, file sharing... banned.
And also let me add that if you guys can't handle the handful of sites that set up accounts, then I sure as hell would not trust you to handle my money.
