Who knows about HD camcorder stuff?

I ordered the Canon XHA1 HD Camcorder and was looking over accessories for it, one thing they had listed is
FireStore FS-4PRO "HD", Portable Direct To Edit (DTE) Recorder

Anyone use one of these, are they worth getting and does it allow you to edit the video or do you need something else?

That camera has a IEEE 1394 terminal so you should be able to hook it up to a firewire port with no problem. Importing the video using an editing program like Final Cut HD Express should work fine.

All I know is that HDV is a lousy format. No HDV cams will even be made in another few years. HDV is just a crappy compression so it will be replaced soon.

FireStore is a great option.... essentially a harddrive for the camcorder rather than going straight to tape. Gives you longer recording times and you avoid the lag of capture.. just save it to your drive on your computer (takes time, but less than capture)...
