When I deposit cheques, I line up for a teller - the lines are short enough - and I get "face time" with the employees. We chat, we joke around, and the people at my branch now know me by name. Personal relationships and recognition makes a big difference if you're not huge player.
Its not hard work going to the bank once a week and shooting the shit.

totally agreed. i was going to my hometown branch since i was 12, so they all knew me. then i moved to ottawa. they wanted to hold my checks, blah blah but once they seen me coming in every week with US checks that have no issue, they were more than happy to do it for me. i just keep going to the same branch and see the same people.
