Do you think there's any real traffic in Web 2.0 yet?

I grasp the concept of a lot of the Web 2.0 Search Engines and communities, but do you think there is any real traffic there yet? Do you really think that is where everything is headed? I'm not sold yet.

Yeah, I can see that. LOLJesus has a ton of bookmarkers on delicious. But sites like snizzshare and jays that have 50-150x the traffic barely have shit.

in porn people want instant gratification and then they log off or move on to non-porn...and while it may make more money for us all, it isn't something people want to "network" or be "social" about, unless of course it is some cool niche like suicide girls

while there are exceptions out there, those are still die hard porn fans and they are pretty rare

if you can find a way to entice people into being social and interacting, while still remaining anonymous, THEN you will have something

If you look closely at some of the popular links on lot of those sites, you can see they are being subtly manipulated with fake users in order to garner a "community" of real users in much the same way as the autorank pro etc sites were abused by camgirls to make themselves appear more popular.

True, there is a lot of "Faking it" in some social communities, but there are some real visitors and traffic to be had.
I don't think it will ever be good for porn for the reasons stated, but, it is good for mainstream.
Entertainment and Music, News, Tech, and Social Issues seem to do the best.
When you say 2.0 (and I hate the term, it's already over used) Blogging is the main foundation of it, and adding new content daily, or multiple times daily, is a huge SEO bonus.
It is being abused, with all of the benefits that it holds, people are still "short cutting" it, and the usual impatience and overzealousness the newbies on the web have, but I think it will balance out soon.

In porn, I wouldn't change my business model, but I may dabble with some things that can cross over, with 2.0. Softcore, Non-nude, Dating sites, Sex Toys, and such.
I personally swear by it, and love it. It definitely levels the playing field a little in that quality content will win over all.

In my oppinion the problem with the community/network sites is that its very hard to find anything to SELL to them.

                1) Because its mostly for example students on those sites, they have no money anyway.
                2) The sites are very specific and you have a very specific reason to go there, high percentage of geeks too, none of these people are going to look or even click any ads!

have you noticed how as time goes on (very quickly actually), people on some sites are in the habit of not clicking on anything due to spam, misleading links, etc..... try and get people on myspace to click on a link... it is like pulling teeth, they have been conditioned to not click or even read anything with a link because of all the spammers/scammers

I don't know about that. The first time I ever looked at delicious I saw there were already a bunch of people that had it bookmarked. Seeing as I own the site and am the only one involved in the marketing of it, I would find it very suprising that a comunity of fake profile had arisen to make me more popular.

you lost me. I offered you an explanation as to your question of why some small sites appear more popular than they are. I don't know what you own and didn't suggest that you are attempting to manipulate things with your sites.

If you ever decide to do that though, make sure you subcontract it out so there is absolutely no connection between you and the fake profiles.

LOL...I am well aware that people will try to spam Web 2.0...it might be even too easy to do. I was just saying that sites do rise to the top just because small groups of people like them and using my site as an example.

yup it's hard to keep a crappy site at the top for long so the system does work quite well for now as long as the real users outnumber the fakes.

So far from what I see, "web 2.0" style sites, especially communities and do it yourself sites has traffic that makes the shittiest chinese hitbot traffic look productive. Web2.0 is the freeloader generation, they will come to your site, they will check your stuff, they will download whatever is free, and then turn around and upload it onto a portal and share it with their friends that way.

At this point, I haven't seen a "version2" adult website that truly has a hope of making real money.

web 2.0 is a concept= shit like blogs and myspace- simple usable interactive. there are characteristics like bright friendly colors, simple and useful interfaces, etc.
google is mega web2.0. in contrast, netscape is web1.0. web1.0 was brought on in a way by the corporate interest in the internet. huge money making pointless and largely useless websites. web2.0 was an answer to that, users who are also developers created sites that did stuff, that people wanted to use. flickr, facebook, myspace, wordpress, etc. so fuck yes there is traffic in web 2.0. unless you guys think that google traffic isnt real???? syndication and blogging are huge characteristics/indicators of web 2.0ishness. blogging is the new tgp. id say almost all the traffic is web 2.0, people are just unclear on what it is. its a schway, a philosophy- it was pretty much created to define the fallout of the dot com burst.... anything left over is more or less web2.0 (of course theres still a lot of web1.0 stuff still....)

I am sold. Look at the biggest and stickiest sites in the world. That is where we surf. GFY is a good example. Occash has advertised here. Youtude and myspace have tons of people on there trying to monetize it. Some more successful then others.

Web2.0 is the freeloader generation, they will come to your site, they will check your stuff, they will download whatever is free, and then turn around and upload it onto a portal and share it with their friends that way.

At this point, I haven't seen a "version2" adult website that truly has a hope of making real money.
