Your key words are "right now." Back in the early days of TGPs they were posting stolen content and linking directly to members areas. A real thorn in the side of the industry, yet they were allowed to have sponsor banners on their front pages. This is really what we are seeing again with torrents. You can either attempt to cut it's head off now, or let it naturally develop into something with some order that can be used by the industry. That is my take on this.Comment

the "early days" where millions of people were searching for 1000s of pages cannot possibly be compared to today in any way, shape or form. all those "problems" of the early days didn't evolve into something else... they were for the most part, eradicated by people refusing to do business with those people.
unless of course "the early days" to you means 2 years ago or something.
you can't compare a wild west free for all that had yet to settle into some sort of order to the increasing problem of blatent content theft and copyrighted content sharing that is happening on a scale that was NEVER possible before now.Comment

Well, the linking directly to members areas was stopped in a very short amount of time (except by programs that mistakenly thought they could make money on the upsells inside... instead they got wiped out by huge bills on plugins). The situation wasn't tolerable, and it was changed.
If it was AFF's content getting ripped off, it might be there choice - but they aren't the ones getting ripped off, they are working hand in hand with the bandits to profit from the work of others.
AFF could VERY VERY easily add code in their iframe serving software (and affiliate tracking system) to deny requests from torrent sites. They aren't hard to find. Ban the word "torrent" in the URL. Suddenly these guys aren't getting banners served. Suddently their clicks don't count. Suddenly the money stops flowing.

webmasters took their own thumbs because the sponsor wasnt but the sponsor still makes money, playboy doesnt make anything by having every issue of playboy on torrent sites before i get them with my paid subscription
how do you figure that .. if they are the majority of the sponsors = most of the income , thasts about as clear as you can get
that there arent nearly as many .. thats what i have noticed
i dont see any doing it.. thats like saying oil barons are just doing it for kicks and would do it for no profit just because they like seeing us drive around in cars..

I can agree with that. Those torrent sites kill our business. Way bigger deal than Zango. If they weren't turning a profit I'm sure a lot would shut down.I make the majority of my living producing DVDs. Why is it that every torrent site that has stolen my content and is giving it away, often 10,000+ times per title, sometimes up to 50,000 per title, you are there?
Why do you allow these people to make money off of you? Why do you support these thieves? Why do you pay them?

one way to get back at them: signup for their newsletter or whatever it is they send in the mail with a yahoo, hotmail, aol and gmail account. Then report them all as junk mail.
If you do this enough times with different email addresses, they will eventually get blacklisted, and they'll lose tons of money.
Yes, it will take time to get it done, but if you are so pissed at them, may be you can use that energy for that...Comment

I sometimes wonder if Lars is keeping the majority owner Andrew in the dark about all the shady shit so he can maximize revenue and his share of profits in the short term and doesn't care when all of this blows up in the company's face and they get their just desserts, as he will be long gone. and zero income " hobbies" wont scratch the surface compared to the big for profit torrent sites. You could take all of the " hobby" torrents put them together and they wouldn't equal 1/2 of pirate bay. It is impossible to eliminate anything, but would be nice to put a large dent it in.
Also let the hobbies get harrassed with legal issues (depending upon where they are located) and see if they like coming out of pocket big bucks for something that doesnt make them money.
