    Amount to tip taxis?

    Is there a customary percentage for taxi tips? I'm curious about this because I can never figure it out and I end up tipping way too much.

                      depends on what bill I'm paying with and how much change I how much I would be getting back. Usually a few dollars though

                              most of the time, ill ask the driver to keep the change..coz usually, i am not paying the exact amount...and that money he will get from my change is already the tip..

                                      10% is about right, I think.... that's what I've always tipped.

                                      more if I have a special request or I have him keep the engine running while I step in somewhere or something - they usually get more money if they're moving than if they're sitting still.

                                      but min 10% as a good rule of thumb, imho.

                                          Here in New York City....cab rates have gone up like crazy with $1 fuel surcharge, weeknigt charge, weekend surcharge and weekend night surcharges...i am not even kidding but a $5 cab ride i use to take 2 years ago is about $12 now. Traffic is worse which means more money too......

                                          I usually just tip $1 to $2. And that kills me since i am literally going a couple of miles...

                                              Well actually I always wonder what to tip the taxis in NY going from JFK to Manhattan. The taxi commission's flat rate is $45 but sometimes it seems like the ride is worth way more than that... I end up feeling bad, give them a hundo and ask for $40 back...

                                                      I never tip taxis because of the whole 3.00 to just shit into a cab even if you go no where thing.

                                                      but my x bf tips 3 to 5 dollars.
