True, but you want to compare design skills, not apples and oranges, as will be the case if everybody does whatever they want with whatever domain, niche, content, etc. Every competition has to have some standards - be it the Olympics, an Architectural design bid, or a paysite design competition. In motor racing they have standards when it comes to engines, suspension and car weight - and thats when the really good driver shines - when the playing field is level.

I dont think we're comparing design skills here. It's just a fun competition to see who can make a kickass tour, not the Judgement Day for paysite designers. There should be NO restrictions, and that's how we'll get truely fun and creative results. Else it will just turn out to be another paysite designing job for the participants, with a prize attached instead of a fee.Comment

If you look at it this way, then you're right. I just thought with the voting and the prizes and all... it looked like a competition, and I tried to make a couple points about how to avoid problems and confusion (having standards can really help in these cases).
But fun is the most important thing anyway, and the contestants should ultimately decide on how it's gonna be most fun to play.

The only restrictions that I think need to be maintained is that we're all doing the same thing..... know what I mean? We gotta keep this somewhat grounded in reality.... one guy wants to use Flash.... and then if that's gonna be okay, then another guy wants to use fully qualified Shockwave..... then someone else wants to use Quicktime..... etc.... and I know on the surface, that sounds cool.... what an amazing variety of killer stuff we would see! But if this is gonna be done on paysite tours, how many paysite tours actually use that stuff in reality? As in reality, just because it CAN be done, doesn't always mean that it should.
Look at the Aztec.... that car/minivan/suv/station wagon thing never should have been created.
I don't know..... tough call on this one....
on the other hand, I agree.... it would be very cool to just go all out and se what develops from it... ;-)
as long as there's no fucked up shit like auto-bookmarking and shit....
at least, that's my on it..... the officials are the ones that should make that call since they're the final Judges, and I'm not one of them. So I'm anxiously awaiting the final rules on all of this too...

but we gotta figure out what the final voting categories are gonna be on....
like, style.... color matching.... etc.... at least some kinda basic guidelines for the judges to go by...

So far this makes the most sense. I think the idea of coming up with whatever I want it to be. But I am still looking forward to an official set of rules so we can all of this straight.
