What do you use Mac or the other shit lol

So I'm looking to get a new laptop soon and I'm not quite sure what I want. Basically I need it to be able to handle tons of large applications open at once like photoshop, Reason etc. I want to do my graphics stuff on it, aswell as my music production & handle my normal business type stuff. I heard the macs are the greatest for this, but I dunno, Im just not really that into them. So I'm looking at either getting a macbook, Dell XPS, or a Ferrari 3000. What do you use, and recommend?

Personally, don't dig macs so take the following as biased:

              Re: Mac users

              Some quotes from bash.org:

<osx5> question is there an irc server that has mostly mac users on it?
<Eulogy> i hope to god not.
              <osx5> lol, why
<Eulogy> that much arrogance would cause the universe to collapse on itself.

<Anony-X> mac users, i swear to god...

It's not the same as it used to be. You can use photoshop and do music production just as well on PC as you can a mac.

Well as well as the creative side of things, Macs have a much more intuitive and stable interface.

                    And as for multitasking.....

Im on an oldish G4 Powerbook (1.5ghz powerpc cpu....the old ones) with 1.5gb ram.

Ive got Photoshop CS2 open, 6 dreamweaver windows, itunes (visualization runs fine too) about 10 FF winows, and all my instant messaging windows (msn and iChat[ICQ]) and then a good few notepads and entourage (MS outlook).

Still running smooth and fine... and thats with 5 users connected to my shared iTunes folder and a few downloads running in the bg.

I can't even imagine the power when I get my new 20" iMac

                    Macs aren't just for artists.

You gotta ask yourself, do you buy a ready made car that works as soon as it's delivered, and if (and unlikely) anything goes wrong, its fixed instantly by professionals for cheap.

Or do you buy parts for a car, it's gonna need tweaking constantly or it'll break, it'll need regular replacements and repairs and it'll break down often.

The only reason Mac users appear arrogant is because we get frustrated with the blind ignorance of windows users.

Of course, you can...but Final Cut and Logic Pro can't be touched by the Windows based alternatives.

I use both.. Have a Dell XPS a Powerbook G4 and a quad core Mac desktop... I prefer my Macs, but you can't get completely away from PC world.

For my production side I use my Macs almost exclusively.. Photoshop, Final Cut, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, etc.

PC is used for PC only programs... not many of them.. but a few. ACDSee, Quicken, Quickbooks, mIRC, ICQ, Windows Media Player 11 (Mac is only up to 9)... so it just depends.

I would recommend the Mac.. but you will be safe either way.

I agree and this is why I have a Mac desktop. Especially for music.

But, when I had to buy a laptop last July, I bought a Sony Vaio because I was concerned that if I ran into networking issues at hotels (I travel a lot), the IT guys at hotels wouldn't know the first thing about helping. I know Macs are generally easier but . . . as it turned out, I did have a slew of networking issues, getting connecting via ethernet at my Jakarta hotel and another problem getting wireless at my Bangkok hotel. It took the IT guys a while to figure it out, so I wonder if it ever would have been resolved on a Mac--or maybe never had a problem in the first place. Who knows?

So now I have my iMac desktop and Vaio laptop for travel.

I am also worried that MacBook Pro would be fussy and not very durable for travel. I don't know whether those concerns are justified or not.

But . . . I do look forward to the day when a MacBook Pro will be the only machine I need. That would be pimpin'.
I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I wish I was drinking wine instead.

The Mac is quicker to setup and has just about everything you need. Dell's are pile of shit, (any manufactured PC is trash) you really should buy built PC's from places like PCClub or TigerDirect, at least with these places you can get a real BIOS.

You can customize any PC (from those places) to out perform a Mac. Mac's are expensive, the difference in cost often means a stronger PC. A $3k PC is a bit stronger than a $3k Mac.

The Mac's video is pure amazing, it's fast, clear, clean, it's color is sharp. It takes an expensive video card for a PC and a nice Monitor to hang with a MAC in this category. However, with PC's you have the option of going all out, and that beats out a MAC.

Out of the box, music and video production on a MAC simply owns a PC. A pc and a mac are almost the same, but this makes MAC stand alone.

They both crash, it's rare but both do crash. Both about the same amount.

If you have a PC to use while you learn the MAC then get a MAC. It's a simple learning curve, not all software works the same, and the MAC may not have the software you need or want.

And if you don't like the Mac, sell it, take the $, beef up your PC and be done with it.

I have never said a PC was better than a MAC or a MAC was better than a PC. It's just fucking hardware ( or maybe I had *shrug* ). I was making a comment about the "MAC user", as have many other people over the years.

Threads about apple computers are pretty much the same as threads about circumcision - the only people bitching in the threads are those with apple computers or those who aren't circumcised; why is that?

Furthermore, do owners of apple computers really try and fuck their machines through the firewire port? Cuz' I heard that on many mac boards... apple users banging their hardware via firewire ports. .... Which are pretty tiny, actually.... hummm.....

But . . . I hate all these Mac vs PC arguments over what's better. I mean everybody knows Microsoft copied Windows from Apple, but everybody knows MS made great, smart business decisions in growing their business.

I have a strong preference for working in the Macintosh environment, partially because there are Mac-only or Mac-better applications I like to use and partially because I love the features of Mac, but also because it is more intuitive for me and a more aesthetically pleasing OS to look at and work through. But I don't begrudge PC users their preference. I use a PC laptop myself.

The bottom line is, get what you want and know that no matter what you choose, you'll have some plusses and minuses either way. It depends on how each individual like to go about their computing tasks.
I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I wish I was drinking wine instead.

On a semi-related note, I bought myself a PowerMac G3 Blue & White a few weeks ago and am currently doing it up and testing it out. I have to say though, Macs take a lot of getting used to; especially the concept of a program being "forever open" until you click onto Finder, and even then it's probably still running in the Dock.

I'm seriously considering switching to Mac, but my main concern is that my old school Mac can't even sync video to audio correctly on anything from a YouTube video to a downloaded QuickTime movie, which is why I'm hoping the memory upgrade I'm getting will actually allow me to move into the 18th century and see pictures going at the same rate as sound...

I switched to a MacBook Pro in February. I constantly have tons of apps open, crunching away at CPU and using up a lot of RAM. The only time it has ever crashed on me was one time I tried to start Windows XP through Parallels. If you're new to the OS X you might feel less productive for a week or so, but then you'll be way more productive than you were in Windows. If you're a *nix person you'll also feel right at home at the command line.

If you can't choose between Mac or PC, and money isn't that much of an issue, there is no reason not to switch to Mac. You'll have both windows and OS X at your fingertips.

I like to be able to make my own system and prefer to research every part rather than blindly following what a company suggests I buy.
