One reason is ICQ numbers aren't the biggest target of spam. If a bot sees an @ it grabs it and sends a ton of e-mails a day. But ICQ is just a number. I feel a lot better putting icq in my sig than an e-mail addy (which MSN needs).Comment

I think its because ICQ was one of the first that allowed delayed messenging... if the other party was offline, you could still send a message and the server would hold it until the other side logged on. Plus, it was the first IM program on the market. If they had gotten their shit together and not bloated their website so badly, they might still be the powerhouse they once were...i like wafflesComment

Back in the day we used to use a program called talk.exe to chat with each other - we used to have to email each other ip addresses and then manually connect.
I believe ICQ came before MSN, or at least before MSN was popular.
