                              I agree with WiredGuy on this. The site with the most members will ultimately have the most prospects for ANY region... ruling out any other options.

                              I met my girlfriend on Yahoo Personals, btw. Worked great, and all I had was a free 1 week trial.

                                                                                                          C is lame... you can't create really successful localized dating sites because "local" is a geographical impossibility... e.g. if you're in California but on the east side then west CA would be less local than another state which borders to the east... Same thing for a city... Full featured dating sites (read, worth a shit) use spatial indexing to solve this problem...

                                                                                                          Also, localized sites won't attract nearly the crowd that a larger dating site does which means... less revenue, less features, and less popularity... given that the company running the ship is worth their salt...

                                                                                                          Best thing out there right now as far as product goes is OKCupid... Their stock is consistently growing as well. I'll go ahead and say right now they're headed for industry domination. They've only recently begun to monetize their product and they're ripping out great changes to their product and model pretty damned quickly.

                                                                                                              If someone is seeking a serious long term relationship and they want to search online I advise people to find what they are passionate about and go for message boards.

                                                                                                              It seems like there are forums for almost every aspect of life- from art, to music to video games. If you want to find someone you're compatible with what better to start with than what you're passionate about or most enjoy doing in your spare time. That's my opinion anyway.

I think what makes eharmony work isn't the personality matching "algorythm" as much as the commonality of mindset in their user base.

                                                                                                                          Generally, people signing up to eharmony are looking for a serious, long term relationship and are seriously committed to their search for finding someone. The 200 some odd question "personality test" as a barrier for entry to a degree insures this. The thing is about as quick and painless as taking the SATs and weeds out anyone who might be interested in the service as a passing fancy.

                                                                                                                          People who find success on eharmony generally skew older and are looking to settle down. The fear of being alone is a powerful motivator, if you take that away I don't think it works as well. Just my
