I can't believe the misinformation in this thread. For Christ's sake people, get it right.
1st. All of those quotes above with "spit" and "brass mole" in place of the properly used, effective and rightfully justified curse words just take away from the glory of the dialogue in the movie.
2nd. It's the MARINE CORPS, not the fucking army and no, Canadians have no goddamned clue what Parris Island is like. Ya, you canucks and the fucking coast guard.
3rd. R. Lee Ermey was a Gunnery Sgt. in the Marine Corps, was a drill instructor at 3rd battalion on Parris Island and is one bad ass mother fucker in real life. I met him at Camp Lejeune when I was still in and he's every bit the character he played in that movie.
I was a Sgt. in the Marine Corps, will always be a Marine and know every word of that movie by heart. I have since I was 15 and was itching just for a chance to get my ass over the obstacle, charge the machine gun nest and get the fuck up the hill. If you don't get it, you never will. If you do...well, you do. :-)
Full Metal Jacket is Kubric's best movie and hell ya for watching it over and over on a big fuckin' TV.

I wish I had a way of tracking how many times I've seen the same movie. What system do you use? Do you have a notebook by your TV? Or maybe you just put a check on the DVD cover when you watch the movie. That would be the easiest way for me to keep track. I watch movies in all different rooms of the house, so the notebook would get lost.

I love this movie to death!
One thing i don't understand is this: i watched very carefully and the sarge says "Marine Core, Beloved Core, etc" and not "Corps" at least it seems so...
