Michael Moore is just a fat fuck who puts the exact same disinformation tactics to use as the people he stands against. And what does he do in the end? PROFITS FROM IT! Which doesn't put him too far off from those he stwands against inmy opinion. All his videos are is propaganda from the other end of the spectrum. People are fed up with the system, and he's made a healthy business out of exploiting it. He's found a market, and fed to it exactly what it wants to hear. I guess if we're going to be fed shit day in and day out from one opposing force, it's only fair to be fed full of shit from the other. But I still don't hold a whole lot respect for Michael Moore myself...

i have liked his movies , and it is funny to see the propoganda turned backwards on people , but in all reality he is using the same sort of propoganda so it makes his message useless.

i think being on the internet and knowing the details of the things he reports on helps to expose him for what he is.

Put rather more acceptably than a couple of remarks in today's two threads, but still basically saying the same both wrong and irrelevant thing.

Dave Kopel's site claims to debunk some of Moore's facts. Other sites debunk Dave Kopel and are in turn debunked, etc. Around and around we go. Somewhere in all that lot are the real facts, but if we had a way to be sure we had identified the real facts correctly, there would still be as many shades of opinion as now. Opinion may be influenced by facts, but it is not determined by them.

Perspective is the primary determinant of opinion. Mine relating to foreign policy is that if you stomp on someone enough to hurt, but not enough to destroy, one day that action will come back to haunt you. You likely cannot destroy a nation, tribe or whatever, along with everyone who is vested in them, so from my perspective any interventionist foreign policy is going to bite back one day.

Thus I read about the past 80 years of US foreign policy in the Middle East and see 9-11 as an inevitable result. I see what we have done since as almost the exact opposite of what was needed and therefore anticipate further acts of violence. But someone else, reading from the perspective that economic growth for the US must be protected at all costs, will read the exact same history and believe the policy was sound. Even if such a person agrees that 9-11 was a result of that policy (and in order to defend it, he/she is unlikely to make such an admission), he is likely to argue for an aggressive response, much like what was offered. Same facts, two polar opinions.

The nature of debate is that disagreeing sides use convenient and partial facts to present their own points of view. Distorted surely, but it is not the job of either side to present the other side's argument and in the end, those following the debate will not be persuaded by the facts anyway. Most will accept the argument which sits most comfortably with their own preconceptions. Just a few might be swayed if one argument is made with particular passion or if they especially like or dislike the personality of one of the debaters.

I don't know if Moore's movies have any value. Heaven knows that if democracy is to mean anything, something needs to jolt a lot of people out of their ignorance and lethargy. But I doubt many of them were in his audiences. Most who were likely went to validate their existing point of view, or so they could put Michael Moore down after. I seriously doubt that many have switched sides.

Moore is so fucking annoying... While alot of his stuff probably makes sense, I can not sit through a whole movie watching that turd.

Sheesh, the bottom line is Moore is tackling an issue that has been long overdue. The people of the U.S. should be given the best health care bar none and yet tens of millions can't afford it, tens of millions get often life endangering errors and 100s of thousands die from silly shit like staff not washing their hands.

It's far more than a crying shame I can assure you.

PS There is actually an increasing number of US folks going to other countries for healthcare - it's an increasing biz here - healthcare system ranks the same as the US, but at around 25%-33% of the cost. It can also be the same US hospital chains providing that service - strange....

I do ad work for advanced medical research labs. Two top ones in Thailand.

The costs in Thailand are 10% of what you pay here in the U.S. and believe it or not there are global health care companies and credit/loans that cover that shit! They're so competitive to the U.S. credit/lending and health care/medical systems it's amazing! You can get full coverage from companies outside of the U.S. with ten times the customer care!

Thailand alone, any one of our patients let's say a heart problem patient that would be paying $150k in the U.S. In Thailand that rounds out to $15k. During your stay you have nurses around you around the clock. People get your food get your mail, clip your toenails etc. Recouperation is even better, beach stays, fresh food etc.. Heck they have guys who'll get you a piece of poontang if it'll make ya feel better!

Now compare that with what you get in the U.S.. The doctors there and in China are so into doing the best job in competition with one another they go overboard to do a superior job. It's an honor thing. Infection rates are 10% of what they are in the U.S. because in Thailand they do something simple:

If you need health insurance and can't get it in the U.S. because of pre-existing conditions? Get it from numerous other insurance companies worldwide that cover you in the U.S.. Pisses off the American companies no-end and what's better, two friends of mine own two insurance companies overseas. The big insurance companies tried to buy them out and they refused! I think they're going to be in the Michael Moore movie talking about it.
