Most likely...though I wasn't really making a claim to living in the most 'ghetto' of ghettos

We do but it rained last night and it was 8am ..trust me it isn't all clean...I didn't take pictures of the walk way to the trees that is covered in dog poop, rubbish and today for some reason...a fish head.

Also..the lake looks nice ..from that distance...if you get close enough you can see all the crap floating in it....a few cars are apparently in there but from the edges you can just see the bottles, bags and occasional shopping cart.

I dont know it well, is it nice there? I mean, do you like living there? If the answer is yes, then fine.

Cos i actually spend a lot of time helping friends find places in and around London and you usually dont need to be in a bad place if you know London. The money isnt even the issue, its more about being educated about the place itself. I daresay if you saw where i live, you probably wouldnt even recognise it as London or even as being in the UK.

Dont hesitate to drop me a line if you want some advice or help on this - i know the best areas like the back of my hand and there some great places which are highly highly affordable in London. And on the other hand, some amazing places if you dont mind being perhaps twice the distance from central, you might consider elsewhere.

Some parts of bedford are nice, and Milton Keynes is absolutely stunning.... with good rail links into central London.

I like it - it looks worse than it is and it is getting a makeover ..I like living in London but not IN London ..on the outskirts. I have Abbey Wood station a five minute walk away (20 minutes to London Bridge), I have a doctors office right across the street - in fact that building they are working on is a brand new health centre, Greenwich isn't far..I like it overall and the fact that it is a stupidly low rate for London (due to the stigma the area had in the past) makes it even better

I didn't pick Thamesmead ..my husband was already living here (and had for nearly 25 years) when I moved in but it is my home now and I am looking forward to seeing what it is like when they are done fixing it up.

That said, I agree Milton Keynes is nice..I don't get why people give it a hard time. I had to go there when I graduated from the OU and I thought it was a nice town.

I lived in Chapeltown..... in Leeds.

This is a place where people get shot every week. Taxis dont drop people off there, and you can never get anything delivered because its too dangerous. The BBC were researching a documentary on no-go areas, a researcher rang me up and I recommended he go visit Chapeltown and he did. He and his crew were physically attacked, which should have made for even better reporting but sadly they abandoned the project.

London's Ghetto seems to be much cooler than any other Ghetto's here in California. Thanks for sharing your areas history, I thought it was interesting.

From the look of it the place looks pretty decent. I can't say how the atmosphere is because I've never been nor lived there.

That being said, let me show you what a South American ghetto is like.

This is Villa 31 in the barrio (neighborhood) of Retiro in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I lived about 4 blocks from here (behind the buildings visible in the background). The neighborhood is quite nice, commercial and residential area, some of the most expensive real estate in the city. Then you have Villa 31 on the other side of the road. The disparity in wealth is astonishing in South America.

Here is another photo inside Villa 31.

By the way, this is Villa 31 so you know there are many more of these shantytowns... here is a link to some history about Villa 31 http://www.habitants.org/article/art...ew/1653/1/459/

It looks like some sort of a bong. I bet you can get pretty waisted using that.

I think part of using the word ghetto in the title and then showing what I did was part of me knowing how lucky I have it compared to people in other countries that are in areas that have stigma attached...there was more than a touch of irony in me using it.

Well,we are our own town..just right next to Woolwich. Woolwich as a whole though it having massive overhaul...half of the main part of the town has been torn down in the last few months. They are putting a DLR extension to Woolwich Arsenal station and it is MUCH needed. We are in London but miss out on a lot of London transport links..when the DLR went into Greenwich (four stops away) it opened a whole new area of jobs because we could finally get to Canary Warf..now with it coming into Woolwich (1 stop from me) ..it is going to be a yuppie rush but Woolwich could really use it.

The only sad this is that *THE* Woolwich branch - big grand bank - in Woolwich closed two years ago. Hate to see neat buildings like that go.

I know what you mean though..my BF is from a smaller town in Merseyside and they have a Morrison's that sells things like that but they don't have the corner stores that sell Jamaican, Nigerian, Indian and Polish ingredients right next to the British stuff.
