WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A bipartisan group of U.S. senators reached agreement on Thursday on an immigration reform bill that would legalize millions of illegal immigrants and establish a merit-based system for future migrants, Sen. Edward Kennedy (news, bio, voting record) said.

Asked by reporters if the group had reached a deal, Kennedy said, "yes." The bipartisan group of senators was set to formally announce the deal at 1:30 p.m. (1730 GMT).

The agreement sets the stage for what is expected to be a passionate Senate debate over immigration and lead the way for what would be one of the most significant accomplishments of President George W. Bush final term.

I dunno much about the bill, but one thing is certain. We are never going to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country unless they build a East German cold war era wall across the boarder. That of course is never going to happen, so the best option is to make it easier to track them once they are here.

I say if they really wanted to do something about it, the US govt would go after the companies that get caught using illegals.

In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

Look, the bottom line is for over a century, politicians, big business and greedy Americans have been using immigrant labor like their own private slave labor and sex slave business. It's so immense that the White House and legislative branch had no choice or else the gangs that control this shit would out them fuckers for being a bunch of pedophile fudge packers.

So we the people, and those people who try to get in legally get fucked because we have such shitheel representatives and neighbors.

With this bill pending, the flood of illegals may turn into a tidal wave. People flooding over the borders trying to get in under the wire before the President signs this bill into law. All of us in the southern states bordering Mexico and the northern states bordering Canada had better be on our toes.

they dont want to stop them coming in,if they wanted to do that they could do it in about a week. Take some business owners that hire them out in shackles and no one would hire them and then they wouldnt come here .

The only way to stop illegal immigration is to prevent businesses from hiring illegals. Go after huge corporations and your problem is solved. Building a fence with gigantic gaps in it won't solve shit.

Tony if they busted the business owners that hired them they'd have to bust half of Congress, The Senate, Generals, Colonels, Admirals, Governors, Mayors etc.

They'd have to go back to hiring people and paying them a fair wage which would drive the bureaucrats crazy.

This is a prime example of hour or leaders have turned into rogue politicians and do what they want, not what the people that elected them want. The democrats want the illegals to stay because it means more votes for them. The repubs want them for cheap labor, but almost all of the American people (some polls show as high as 85%) don't want them to be able to stay, but the elected leaders clearly could care less what we want.

Most illegals are not here to get on welfare. Most are here to provide income for their families, either directly here, or by sending money back to their country of origin.

This means you have two options:

Sure there is. Shoot on site once they cross the border. Eventually they'll see it's not worth it. How many escaped E Germany when the Berlin Wall went up? A few dozen maybe. Most thought wiser of the ideal.

If you can't make a distinction between LEGAL and ILLEGAL immigration you need to be deported.

Literally 1 out of every 10 Mexicans is here in the US. Last time I checked that be considered an invasion.

No matter... I was looking at demographic data for the US this morning. Hispanics (Mainly Mexicans) outnumber black and Asian in almost every city.

In LA they are 40% of the population officially. I'd say 60% unofficially. LOL

The government basically had no choice because Mexicans have some pretty heavy duty voting power when mobilized. Look at LA's mayor for evidence of that.

I agree with most of what you say here, but there is one problem. Most of them do come here to better their lives and get money for their families. But many of them end up in the system. Go to a free medical clinic in your area. Most of the people that are sitting in the waiting rooms don't speak English. To a lesser degree the same goes for public hospitals. They have no health insurance so they get their medical cares taken care of at the emergency room.

Many of these people come here and realize they can't get a very good playing job if they are illegal so they end up working for shit wages and somehow still get food stamps and in some cases housing assistance and other welfare programs. Also many of the schools where I live now teach half of their classes in Spanish because they are flooded with kids that can't speak English. That's not to count the amount of drivers that are around that have no license or insurance.

Finally, is it in the countries best interest to let workers in that are just going to send the majority of what they make back to Mexico instead of spending it here and reinvesting it in our country? IMO it's not a good idea at all.

I think most of these illegals mean well. They want to better their lives and get a new start, but they go about it the wrong way and in the end many of them become a burden on the system. There are things we can do about it, but our government clearly wants them here so they are unwilling to act and it's pretty sad.
