    Sponsors... you need larger banners.

    In these days of widescreens and the majority of surfers using 1024x768, a 468x60 banner no longer cuts it. That's a standard from the late 90s when 800x600 on a 15" monitor was the norm. Times have changed.

    Wide banners are awesome. Love em. Embrace em. Please!

          I used to make lots of them when, I worked for LotzaDollars.
          But, I agree. A lot of sponsers really need them.
          They'd be surprised how many people would actually use them.

                      Less than 9% are using 800x600 now. It's in third place, way behind even 1280x1024. These stats are pretty consistent throughout my sites.

                      With new computers coming with 19" LCD screens nowadays, no one runs at 800x600.

                              We have a bunch of banners designed at around 700x100 will be adding larger sizes soon also but great thread not many have even followed the trend.

                                                      It's not so much an issue of the native monitor resolution.

                                                      Most surfers do not surf for porn FULL SCREEN. They have toolbars, instant messangers, etc taking up display space. The browser window might be minimized in size so that other icons in the background are accessable.

                                                      Just something to think about.

                                                                  We have three standard sizes we create all banners/buttons for: 120x60, 624x80 and 728x90. If someone wants something different we can have it created that day.

                                                                  We also have an assortment of odd, vertical and larger sizes.

                                                                                                  Some sites/pages will be designed to promote specific sponsors, so they can be built around whatever the particular sponsor uses. Otherwise it can wreck a design to end up with extra white space in one direction or another. Equally it is frustrating to have to leave out someone's banners because they are just a few pixels too wide or deep.

                                                                                                  My request would be for more 728x90 (IMU "Leaderboard") and 336x280 (IMU "Large Rectangle"). And for all the people popping up in these threads offering custom banners: if you are making them on request, why on earth not afterwards add them to your webmaster area so they are available for all?
