    Outsourcing to Phillipines

I am considering hiring a couple of full-time Filipinos to work from home on copywriting/content and a PPC/SEO specialist.

Has anyone here had success with this and could chat with me about it on any of the messengers like msn?

Also, I am considering whether or not I should spend more and get someone from one of the BPO units where they provide the employee, office and so on.

    Thanks,

    Jon

It really depends how you are getting them, you can get a full time employee from the Philippines for $300 - $400 but if you use an outsourcing service the pay will double or even triple.

I was going to advertise on a Filipino job board. But my concern is reliability, output and quality. Do you have any experience of hiring people on this basis or of using one of the BPO firms?

if you pay right and on time, you can get reliability and output and quality from anybody. Filipinos are trustworthy though, but you need to be careful in choosing a firm that will tend to your needs...some companies will just try to give a high rate but not good quality.

It's always better finding someone in-house imho.

I use a guy who works from home. I've been pretty lucky, he's been very good. I think he appreciates what I pay and my timeliness of paying, so he works extra hard. He does have a fair amount of Internet problems and electricity blackouts, maybe once a week he's down for 2-4 normal work hours, but he always makes up the time... I really can't imagine everyone would do that.

My guess is its very hit or miss.

Another problem you may run into is computer quality. Meaning, a computer in the Philippines will still run $6-700USD. Thats close to 6 weeks salary for a decent paid Filipino. Odds are their home computer is sub-standard and they'll need something better. I had this problem with my guy, but I trusted him and gave a loan. Basically I took $50 out of his pay every month for a year, it worked out fine.

Copywriting is one thing that you shouldn't outsource outside the US, while some fillipinos have good english skills the sentence structure will be a bit off and the content will sound akward.

Considering how many English and creative writing majors there are in the states there is no reason why you should have to pay more than minimum wage to an efficient and highly skilled writer in the US.

Hey Jon, good question. Sometimes when English is not the native language sentences can sound a little akward or spelling mistakes pop up. It does depend on who you get and what you're after - you always get what you pay for imo.

If you run out of luck with the Filipino outsourcing hit me up and I would be more than happy to help you out. I hear struggling Aussie students also do a pretty good job and come pretty cheap ;)

(and yes, I've had industry experience in both affiliate management and writing for all sorts of adult sites )

What I have found is that you are better off hiring a local college student that you can keep tabs on. For really good work over there you are gonna have to pay around $800+ per month. You can pay a local college student, an English major, around $250 a week (cash) and get much better results.

Also, a lot of these outsourcing companies have gotten out of control with their mark ups.

Some things are better to keep local.
I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

be prepared for delays due to power outages, computer issues, heat-related problems, holidays and customs you're not famliar with (13th month pay) - and be prepared to train them to your specs - but there ARE good ones to found :-)

I know some very good Philipino webdesigners, their skills are excellent.

I haven't used them for other tasks yet

Ron, do you pay them by project? Per hour? Did they work exclusively for you or were they freelancers like you can get on Scriptlance?
