Whenever people add me that I don't know, I always ask them that. If they don't answer, I'll add them and look around their page for clues... if I don't find any - they get deleted.

that's what sucks about facebook, with myspace everyone was cool with everyone, now with facebook it is full of suspicion and gotten way too personal

Difference is, I have a lot more info on my day-to-day on my facebook than I ever did on myspace, and facebook is WAY more popular than myspace ever was (at least when I was using it, or in my circles).
I was never someone who "collected friends." I don't do it online and I don't do it in real life either. If I don't have anything to say to someone I don't. If I want someone to know about me they can ask me and I'll gladly tell them most anything - but getting requests from people who won't even bother responding when I ask them if I know them doesn't sit well with me. If I request someone that I don't know (which I don't) I would at least have the courtesy to say "Hey, I don't know you but you seem cool (I want to bang you and your hot roommate)." .. instead of just ignoring their inquiry.

I agree with you, and it is also still a big reason why I say "facebook sucks"

I like it. It's got more substance and depth than twitter, but not as much commitment as talking to someone in person. I can keep in touch with people without having to actually talk to them.

Exactly.
Tonight one of my oldest best friends called me. We haven't talked on the phone in about a year (neither of us are phone people) and haven't seen each other in about three.
We haven't talked all of that time yet we know exactly what the other one is up to and everything that has happened because of Facebook.
She called me to say that she'll be passing through my city on the 28th and wants to stop by. We'll catch up at that time but we won't be telling each other things the other doesn't already know.

Simply ask them "who the f*** are you?" If they know you, then they will know that is how you roll. If they are offended, then they obviously do not know Juicy D. Links! Then delete, of course.
