Buying new Lappy - Mobile Processor Comparison - Need Opinions

    Toshiba Satellite A665-S6092 PSAW3U-0DG03C Notebook PC - Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz, 4GB DDR3, 640GB HDD, DVDRW, 16.0" Widescreen Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    PriceTag: $900

    Toshiba Satellite A665D-S6091 PSAX3U-00C01T Notebook PC - AMD Phenom II X4 P940 1.7GHz, 4GB DDR3, 640GB HDD, DVDRW, 16.0" Widescreen Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    PriceTag: $700

Is the i7-740QM THAT much better than the Phenom II X4 P940 to justify paying $200 more?

Lets "assume" they are.... I am actually trying to compare the CPUs....I found some info on cpubenchmark and it "seems" the Phenom takes the cake but the i7 has dat turbo boost thingy...

but if needed... the most expensive model comes with " Discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M Graphics" and the cheaper model comes w "discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics with 1GB GDDR3 VRAM"

The screens on both of those units are terrible. And those machines are flimsy peices of poop. I won't buy consumer notebooks for that reason. If you want an extremely solid notebook that has a high-end build quality, what you should get is an enterprise notebook... like a Lenovo Thinkpad W510 or an HP Elitebook.

And get them with 1920x1200 screens. Difference in usability is night and day.

hmm, the 5650 is the better of the two

as far as benchmarks there isn't much difference between those two, I doubt you'd see any difference using either of them.

I'd get the cheaper one with the 5650 and save the $200

                  Lenovo thinkpad w510 i7 @ 1.6ghz - 15.6" FHD Display - about 200 more?

Well the battery does seem a lot better (9 cell compared to a crappy 6 cell)

yeap... thats whut I though... I don't know how they would compare taking into account the turbo-boost thing which I "think" is like over-clocking the cpu ...but the phenom quadcore does seem more convenient... at least for the task I'll be using it on...

As far as power-lappies I have my eyes on a XPS

Lowest quote I've gotten on the W510 is around $1500. But it's entirely worth the improvement in build quality alone.

No idea man. I don't really follow Samsung notebooks.
