Probably because his buddies have been told that if he doesn't get in contact with them by such-and-such time, they're supposed to release the password to the "insurance" file.
Too bad they didn't deny him contact. Would be nice to know what's in that file.

Assange asked for one of his legal team to be allowed to bring him a laptop, but was refused ? prisoners are not commonly allowed their own computers.
