not really wizardry true but putting it together into something useable is not always as simple as it seems, and doing it first always helps..

is it some complex hard worked on project ? not really it took a few days to put it together. I built my own flash loader at first but decided to use the source code for the prebuilt one as the license fee is so cheap and it already has all the features i need , the conversion is done with ffmpeg so thats just installinbg and tweaking. the php is just wrapping together existing known scripts, uploading saving etc etc geo grabbing taking screenshots and such..

i think im a fairly complex person and im impressed at myself often times and use my own script and services above others ..

checkout www.smokeycash.com in internet explorer ( dont mind the 80's look and intro , just type in your favourite type of porn , like "blonde blowjobs" ) or a comedian like "david chapelle" sp? .. is it better than sliced bread ? no .. is it kickass and cool yup , and theres nothing like it.

No, don't misunderstand me. I think it's a brilliant application of commonly available technologies. Every time you post something like this I think "why didn't I think of that?" I am a constant tinkerer too. Sometimes I spend a week or more just messing with things like this.

Hell, I remember using a geo-ip database for my first time. I was hired to work on a scrub routine for a (mainstream) affiliate program. I finished the code within a few hours and went to bed. I woke myself up just before dawn with one of those "EUREKA!" moments...I'm sure you get those. When you wake yourself up with an idea and it makes you sit straight up in bed. Going back to sleep is impossible. All you can do is get up and get to your desk ASAP. Anyway, that idea turned into geo-ip dating site ads which at the time hadn't been used that I am aware of. I went absolutely ballistic when AFF started to offer them to everyone about a year or so after I started doing it but I knew it would happen sooner or later.

I've got a lot of shit like this that I have been toying with for months if not years but I keep very quiet about it. Since the whole geo-ip explosion I try to keep my ideas on the downlow. It sucks having ideas and nothing to do with them. I hope you're better at monetizing them than I am.

wow smokey this looks good.. can we integrate this script on to rss feeds? like for example : gallery2blog you can put fhg blogs there and put it in your aggregator then thats it! might be awesome if you can build a lot of flv with desc and pages for each flv then put it in your aggregator and to your blogs! would be awesome!

I found the ffmpeg download site . But can't figure out which link is the actual download .. I keep getting an information page with no download link .. Also is it an easy software to use .. I'm no the most computer savy person around .. still trying to figure out Adbe Lightroom .. LOL

I am not trying to piss all over your idea, but the video quality is a bit lackluster. It looks like mpeg1 circa 2000. Is this due to the source material, or ffmpeg?

There are new compression methods that yield a much higher quality and smaller file sizes (e.g., http://www.on2.com/) And there's an php,perl,python API http://www.on2.com/developer/flix-engine-sdk/

Nevertheless, the geo youtube thing is a cool idea. Good luck with it

i never mind critique unless it has no merit , and your point has merit..

if i decide to sell it or it gets busy i will certainly be upgrading to a better encoder.

also keep in mind the examples arent the best videos to begin with..

i def need some work on the ffmpeg , there isnt much good documentation on it..

the quality is degarded a bit only because i couldnt figure a way to handle all the videos at once easily and get the audio , it keeps missing audio once i bump up the quality.

I thought that might be the issue. A great encoder isn't going to be able to bring to life a lackluster wmv, or mpeg.

I'll upload a few samples to try your geotube thing out.

now here is an even better idea... a plugin for my blogs that automatically takes the links (to videos) from the gallery I am posting and adds them to a post using this flash video. Or something that allows me to just put the URL to the video and everything else is done.
