What do you have where the thumbs are supposed to show?

Try cleaning it so you have the minimum required.

Then if it works add one line at a time.

where it says category...does it matter if i have it set to gay instead of mixed on the submit galleries page?

Mixed will pull from all the categories.
but try changing it to gay
note that its case sensitive.

Try somewhere above the first <%GALLERIES entry to put
<%GALLERIES
HTML Thumb
AMOUNT 40
%>

Then you can find out if it an error with the <%GALLERIES entry or it lies somewhere else.

LOL no but I've been through the same a couple of times and its a pain in the ass cause its one little thing that is wrong and it causes the thumbs not to show and someone helped me back then so I thought I would return the favor by helping someone else since I believe I ahve AGS nailed down now.

Couple of thoughts, why would you want to show galleries with a status of Pending vs Approved for the second block. And do you have galleries which are exactly 3 days old for the first block?
