That brings you to bullshit countries like united kingdom and ukraine. Then you have to scroll down a couple to get to United States. Sometimes when you type in the 'u' it closes the drop-down so you have to click first and then scroll.

All my sites feature what Sly mentioned. A simple geo lookup script tries to determine the country and that country will be preselected in the drop down box. 99.99% of all cases it will be correct and the other 0.01% will have to scroll to their country name a bit.

It's easy as pie to implement and takes a few lines of PHP.

Just checked my site and saw that US have been selected automatically by maybe GEOIP module or browser lang so I didn't have to select it manually or scroll the list.

Looks like it is one of the best checkout scripts in the world as it converts currency to 200 (holy cow) different types and supports 12 languages.
