Addendum:

What kind of RAM did you remove? And what kind did you buy?

DDR2 DDR3, etc? ... memory size? ... what brand? ... and ram timing / speed?

Knowing that might help narrow down the issue.

If you do remove the CMOS battery - first try the new ram by itself, but if no good (I neglected to mention this), try the old ram by itself.
