Sure, you can go through all that and make it work. I was assuming it was over his head though.
You never know what you might run into. I just had to install windows on an older computer that had no driver disks with it. The regular Win XP disk didn't have the appropriate driver for the disk controller so I couldn't even begin to install Windows. To top it off it was a Soyo motherboard and Soyo is gone. I had to search old repair forums for over an hour to find a working download for that driver.
