I was a little 5 year old English girl at the time. I don't remember much but I remember there was a HUGE fair type atmosphere where we lived. My dad was in the RAF and we lived at RAF Coltishall at the time, they had a big free event in the streets with welly throwing contests and all! (LOL) They had events all week long leading up to the wedding too, the Union Jack was flying high and proud EVERYWHERE! It was amazing thinking back on it, I think they even declared July 29th, 1981 as a National Holiday...
I think the whole country was in a fervent frenzy of patriotism and seeing Diana pulling up in that fantasy coach with her incredible dress looking like she stepped out of a fairytale made people feel good and proud to be English!
The media are probably trying to recapture that kind of sentiment and excite the country again, sadly I doubt they'll succeed. People in general seem to be much more bitter about life these days than they were back in 1981....
