ok, here it is, this little fucking piss ant can't even get his story straight, lied to him about my skills, not so much, what he wanted was easy, why i didn't get it done because he wanted it done in 2 weeks, wanted a whole cms, and any respectable php programmer will tell you for it to be correct and done nicely, it would take longer then 2 weeks, i only took the fucking job so he would stop nagging me about it, i turned him down many times, then i was gone for a month? not so much, i was gone for 2 weeks due to isp problems, i came back to this thread and as you can see explained... offered to refund him, but told him im short on money and would pay him back when i got some, forward to about a week or 2 ago, he IMs me every day, 2 or so messages, saying hey i need the money, im short have these bills to pay blah blah blah blah blah, i kept telling him wait im busting my ass trying to get side work to pay him, and that i would pay him, next day, same thing, then today he started threatening me, and saying he was gonna get ahold of my girlfriend, mother, father, sister, aunts, uncles, and grandparents and threaten them, fly out to bum fuck iowa, and assault me and all this shit, i laughed at him and decided, if hes gonna threaten me, fuck him, i'll be a dick and not pay him back, so thats whats going on, hes not gonna get paid back because hes being a fucking dickhead and threaten me...

anyone wants the AIM log, let me know, i'll gladly post it so you all can see exactly what he said

i really don't give a rats ass, and many here will agree with me this kid is a fucking douche bag

As a developer I cannot and will not advocate keeping a client's money if the job was not done. If the job cannot be finished, or if the client and I have a "parting of the ways" the money goes back to the client, that simple.

However, I have dealt with my share of clueless idiot clients who have totally unrealistic expectations and have been tempted at times to drag their asses through the mud and shove their money up their ass, so, while I cannot condone MadRox keeping the money while deciding not to finish the job, I can certainly understand the frustration and exasperation that comes from dealing with totally clueless clients.

BTW, there really are very very few custom jobs that can be done in two weeks. But there are tons of clueless clients that will not accept the truth as an answer.

Clear specs in the eyes of the client are rarely clear in the eyes of a developer. Send me a copy of your specs and I'll grade them if you want But I have rarely found a client that could clearly identify what they really wanted right up front.

To do any project with complexity properly takes a lot of time in the design phase, fleshing out exactly what it is that the client wants.

The standard design process doesn't get any code written for quite a while into the process something that most clients in this biz do not want to put up with and do not understand.

My standard contract calls for a 3 payment plan. 1/3 up front. When the design specs are completed and the design is agreed upon, the client can either stay with me or take the design to another shop. If they stay with me then we get the next 1/3 and we lay out the actual timeline for the project, always with a disclaimer that any timeline is purely an estimate and that it can change significantly throughout the coding phase dependent on availability, client spec changes, etc. Once the coding is complete, again the client can choose to stay with me or they can take the code someplace else for beta and live implementation. If they stay with me then they pay the final 1/3 and we put it in place.

That methodology almost always guarantees a happy client and a less frustrated developer. It takes realities into account and it guarantees communication along the way.

Most stuff in the adult interweb is developed in the "down and dirty, flying by the seat of my pants" methodology where the client wants this now and as you work on the project, scope creep guarantees an out of control situationa nd greatly increases the probability that the client will not be happy and the developer will reconsider taking on any more projects.

Here developer, you go research what that site is and then give me something with those features and some additional features but give me an answer right now on how long it will take even though you haven't done the research yet.
