A lot of people have told me so over the years. I'm watching it now for the first time. What do ya'll think?
Is Dr. Strangelove Kubrick's greatest movie?

I couldn't choose my favorite...
I'm a big Clockwork Orange fan.. The Shining too.Comment

Strangelove is obviously on the high rankings.. but he was involved in a good few movies that have some merit - Space Odyssey, Lolita, Clockwork Orange, Paths of Glory, Shining, Napoleon - they all had "something" for their time

Kubrick was controversial and innovative, and never made the same movie twice...
I love "Dr. Strangelove", because it confronted the nuclear threat of mutually assured destruction in a very different, approachable, way (the dramatic movie "Fail Safe" from that period was also quite good).
Kubrick's list of classic movies which I recommend (besides Dr. Strangelove) is long:
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
The Shining (1980)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Lolita (1962)
Spartacus (1960)
Kubrick surely was one of the greatest movie makers of the 20th century.

True! Unusual to cover the width of subject material - and also historical content
Odyssey was one of my one minute claims to fame in life - but sadly as an monkey
Never seen the movie for years, but there is the "dawn of life" sequence at the start. Was at film school at the time and about 24 of us were "coached" for about a month in the characteristics of "critters" - how they walk, limb movements etc - we then spent about 10 days trying to look like the real thing on the actual shoot
It worked quite well - least the last time I saw it - may be "dated" a little by now.

Don't you start with the smokin and looking casual with a dry grin
Yes... think maybe saw that man - the Ken Shapiro movie?
PS Sounds "cringy" now but was *very serious* issue with the film unit then - amazing the detail/planning that went into that whole movie.Last edited by Webby; 04-28-2007, 11:37 PM.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment
