Okay, watched it yesterday. I thought that overall it was a good film that reminded me of the pace and style of some British films from the 80's. I felt that the ending was a bit weak but I have read a bit about the person that wrote the film and he had a brief flirtation with that sort of group so maybe that is showing how fast things come and go..dunno.
Is it that abrupt an ending (without including spoilers for people who haven't yet seen it) that left the unsatisfying taste for you? I thought it was interesting to show how the early British skinheads transformed from pretty much just being wild kids to being branches of the National Front. That is obviously most clearly shown with what happens to Gumbo (again no spoilers) but then I wanted more from there..for more to be explored.
I felt that it gave us interesting insights to characters and then just dropped them and didn't take us back...which I felt stopped it from being a great film and left it as a good film.
Yeah, the ending did kinda suck didnt it ?
I guess I was kinda expecting another "quadrophinia", or "breaking glass", or someother kinda cult / youth movie of the 80's but it just fizzeled out...
That said though, I was given a much deeper insight into the movie last night, as i happened to catch the south bank show on ITV which was all about it... apperntly the kid in the movie 'sean fields' was supposed to be the director 'shane meadows' so with that in mind, it kinda made sense...
As it was based on his own autobiographical experiences, that kinda explained the ending a lot more...
Anyway, thanks for replying... Interesting to hear your views...
Ah, you are the other person on the planet that likes Breaking Glass People actually groan when they see it in my DVD collection.
I know exactly what you mean
I love anything along those lines... Possibly because I'm trying to recaupture a lost youth ? I dunno LOL
With the benift of hindsight, that I think, was the problem... I probably expected to be 'blown away' by the movie, as i was by so many others... unfortunatly though... Im no longer 16
