off to the mighty Hamburg soon.

Hi, got a cheap to flight to Hamburg. I have heard it is a pretty wild city (as German cities go!!)

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I can get up to? The best places to go?

    my hometown

you definitely need to go to the "Reeperbahn" - the world famous redlight district. tons of bars and clubs there.

but avoid the hookers and stripclubs - it's all scam.

if you can go out saturday night and then go at 6 am down to the "Fischmarkt" - good place for breakfast and party some more.

and of course you should do a harbour cruise - it's impressive

Is Reeperbahn safe to walk around at night? I think I am staying near that area and just want to know If I can get silly drunk and still be ok.

Haha sounds brilliant about the fischmarket.
And yes will do the habour cruise.
Can the football team can you usually buy tickets at the stadium? They still have some remaining?

I have been silly drunk on the Reeperbahn quite a few times and nothing ever happened. There's a large police station right in the middle of the district. Anyway, it's still a Red Light District with loads of drunken people every night, so of course you can never be sure nothing bad happens.

stay out of the small streets that look really shady and try to avoid to look really drunk. and don't start to argue when a group of guys asks you for a cigarette - don't play hero. but in general it's pretty safe, i'm going there for more than 20 years, even worked there for a while, and never had trouble.

and going to a St. Pauli game would definitely be a great experience, the stadium is only 200 meter away from the Reeperbahn. if you're lucky they still have tickets, but they're rare. but there are always guys who sell tickets outside the stadium and if the opponent is not too popular you don't pay much extra

and if you're into rock music i recommend to visit the "Rock Cafe" and "Headcrash" - thats where i usually go.

Süderstraße, Luisenweg, Hans-Albers-Platz, Davidstraße - though it can already be a bit chilly at night.
