I used to think that a little dust on the lens cover never really affected my photos that much. Note, I'm not talking about dust on the sensor, which is VERY noticeable. But I never really noticed dust on the lens/cover until yesterday when I took a series of shots outdoors at higher than normal aperture numbers (around 12-14). Check this pic and see if you can tell what I'm talking about:

Spoiler: It's the hazey areas above her middle finger on the left. Lesson learned. Be sure to wipe clean your lens or lens cover before you shoot, esp at higher aperture numbers!
