Elvis on Idol - sacrilege or cool technology?

So, I'm "accidently" watching American Idol last night and start cringing when I realize Celine Dion is going to perform....then I felt like someone punched me in the back of the head when she started dueting...with Elvis Presley!

Part of me was thinking "this is pretty damn good technology" but then part of me said "this is total sacrilege". Elvis was likely spinning in his grave at top speed. Of all the people he's brought back to duet with...Celine Dion?

What do you folks think of this? A great moment in television history, a total sacrilege or just amazing technology gone awry?

I taped and watched it this morning after the buzz. What the fuck is wrong with singing with a dead guy?
First the "blue work was JUST ok, not great. His head was all over the place and there was never any eye contact even from the body double used to fill. Celine's acting was as poor..she looked like she was really singing with a dead person. I was BAD on so many levels.

I think Celine Dion was my main problem with it...her voice isn't my cup of tea, but she has decent range but she's just so stiff on stage...

I wonder if this will become a trend...maybe we can get that (real) Doors reunion afterall...

I read that they were going to do that, and thouht the idea was terrible. I hated that Fred Astair commercial where he danced with a Dirt Devil.

However, I actually thought it was cool. I was 8 when he died. I never got to see Elvis in concert.I watched his movies when I was a kid. I saw his Hawaii concert (bloated Elvis)when I was little so I never really knew what he was like in performance. My dad told me recently he saw Elvis in his heyday and it was incredible. Now, I have an idea of how he was. Wow.

I didn't mind the trick, I just hope this sort of thing won't be a new trend.

i thought last night's show, almost in it's entirety, was horrible. i'm an idol fan but between the crappy performances, the tear-jerking visits to africa, louisiana, hollywood's boys & girls club - i was getting fed up. "just tell me who got voted off already!" and then they pulled that crap about no one being voted off. how is that possible? they all received the exact same number of votes? LIE.

and celine dion is terrible at singing with a hologram. poor elvis didn't even have a choice.

i think its both ... amazing technology but a bad choice of person to fill it. but at roughly the same time that was airing, Australia's Biggest Loser finale was on and they used the same technology to have the fat version & skinny version walk out together down the runway.

I thought that was a much better use of the technology ...

The guy, looks, talk, walk and breath like the king.

I checked out his video. That show looks really fun, but the voice isn't right (then again none of them are).

I don't see him having a problem doing a duet with an accomplished singer like Celine. She's huge worldwide, and although it's obvious a lot of folks on GFY can't stand her she has in fact reached icon status.

I'm not really a fan of hers either, but I can give credit where credit is due. A lot of people love her. As for Elvis, he wasn't known as an uppity snob whose stomach would turn at the thought of such a performance. He was a consumate showman who loved, I repeat LOVED his audience, his fans.
