Unfortunately in Canada you can't kill someone with a gun or other weapon just for breaking into your house. You have to be able to prove that you feared for your life. Someone breaking into your house without a weapon is not a legitimate reason.
Now, if you take the advice I gave earlier in this thread about placing a hammer beside them after you take care of them, you are in the clear. Also, they have to actually break in first. If you went outside and killed him you would be fucked.
This advice came from a local police sergeant when we were discussing a local incident that happened where a store owner shot at some thieves as they were driving away. Why not have the guy come in and let him see she doesn't live there. I know it's kinda risky in a sense, but if he's crazy you could maybe go the route like Somkey posted at that point.
