Good idea but this is why it is not good:
When you design a page you design is as a whole because a surfers eyes look at it as a whole.
Surfers like patterns not changes, unless it comes to sorting info. i would provide it as an option.
as in they see the page as a whole and multiple thumbs they are interested in at one glance. then by moving it you are changing the pattern they see. slowing down how fast they can click onto the next gallery.
also it may be bad for sales in that they browse that gallery, had another one in mind, then when they go back to buy after comparing in in their mind the gallery has moved.
these are the 2 major downfalls of it.
you dont want surfers to have to think. you want to provide them with an experience. the greater experience they feel they have the more likely they are to buy.
