Great story! You really should put a book together. Just get all your stories together and find and pay an editor to go through it, make sense of it. Then shop it around or even self publish it and promote it.

I don't know... shit... maybe a lot of work to do all that, but I'd read it.

I actually live a pretty dull day to day. Spend most hours in front of the computer like everyone else. Just happen to "luck" unto some crazy things sometimes, but I can assure you there are many, many more dull days than there are exciting ones.


You don't want to carry a gun out in public unless you are seriously trained to use it, and you are willing to both kill with it, and go to jail for using it. In your home is another story, stock up and kill anyone who comes in, but don't ever carry it out unless you're totally prepared and know what you are doing.

The best thing you can do is just give them what they want if you are robbed, and like I said, don't carry anything you're not willing to lose. That way it's not really that bad when it happens. It's best to not try to be a bad ass. Just keep your cool and get out alive. Even though I carry mace on me much of the time now, I still don't think I would try to mace someone with a gun. There is no telling if they will start pulling the trigger when they get sprayed and randomly shooting. I don't see that as an acceptable risk.

Another thing you have to think about is, you are a foreigner. In many developing nations, EVERYTHING is your fault and you will end up cashing people out regardless. It took me a long time to really grasp that one, and once you understand that you're going to pay for it anyway, you just may have the balls to pick up a rock or bottle and smash it over their head right in front of the cops. If you've already caused an injury, it may not end up costing you any more, and if it does, it won't be much. For all the horror of the 3rd world, there are little hidden gems like that. If you know you are gonna have to pay for something anyway, make sure it's money well spent and do some real damage. You'll feel better about it later. 3rd world justice is... 3rd world justice.

I didn't wake up one day and just know how to deal with people trying to rob or attack me in some 3rd world shit hole. It's called "experience" for a reason.

Believe me, I've had my fair share ending up on the wrong side of things in various places around the world. And I'm not sure if you mean Thailand or not, but this place isn't even really dangerous. It has a lot of crime and is always entertaining, but on my personal danger scale, Thailand doesn't even make the list. I wouldn't live here if it did.

I am about to head to thailand in couple of weeks time, was thinking of going to Bangkok for a while , then check out pattaya for couple of days , before heading up north to Isaan ,

Haven't been back to thailand since those protests started back in march , any real changes I should be aware of since then ? I hear some people say it is a bit more "dangerous" now for foreigners as many people now see us as the only way to make some money , any advice or tips / things to look out for , .. ?

Well, the Red Shirt group has started to rally again. There is at least a small bomb a week that someone lets of in Bangkok, usually in a garbage can. A Red Shirt bomb maker just blew himself up by accident a week or so ago while making bombs. That killed a few people.

It's safe, but now with new reports of coming suicide bombers, I'm not sure where it will all lead. Being the idiots they are, now that its starting to come into tourist season, now is a great time to screw up their country again and run them all off.


Naw man, you're safe. Millions of people come here every year, no problems. It's not like Bali where they are putting bombs in tourist bars yet. Though, that day may come.

Having said all that, Thailand is safe. Just use your head and don't act like a dumb ass foreigner and you'll be fine. The only real issues are road accidents and whatever political drama that may rise again.
