That would expose him to the guy swinging the bat, so the cop is "trapped" or has

Like I said I don't think the officer should be charged, but I also don't think he should be an officer in the field. He seemed to panick. That's dangerous for a police officer. Give him a desk job for a while at least if that's what really happened.
