What war?
This is not a war. The war was over in about thirty days. A war is when two countries go to war. The US won the war, which was more like a quick military action (which is disappointing because they promised us the "mother of all battles").
This is a occupation.
Are we loosing? Not really. These aren't acts of war, this is really acts of terrorism - most likely being caused by other countries (READ: IRAN) in an attempt to make the new government unstable in Iraq.
If you think about it, Iran is doing the worst possible thing they can be doing right now. Instead of fucking around, they should be silent. Why? The bulk of the US armed forces is sitting right next door to them, in perfect striking position. Two, the sonner the new government is stable the US (might) leave.
The people who rule the middle east just aren't too fucking bright.Herschel Savage

Truth be told Iran is getting more powerful. The US is going to have to kiss their ass or invade them.. It's still up in the air as to what to what will happen there..What war?

A war is when two goverments go head to head with their military forces with the intention of removing the other government from power. The US invaded, kicked ass, and it was all over in a few weeks. So much for the "mother of all battles" they promised us.
The occuppation phase begins once the goverment has been removed and a new one put in it's place. This is where we are at now. Instead of accepting defeat, the fomer Iraq military members, encouraged by other countries, are commiting acts of terror against themselves.
There is so much talk about the "US dead". During WWII the US at some points suffered thousands of dead a day. I'm a former US Marine and every US death pains me.
The problem is we've become way too nice. We need to say "if there is a terrorist attack in this town we'll bomb the entire town to the ground". Fuck it - let's just kill them all already.
Then once our forces are freed up in Iraq, on their way home they can stop off in Africa and take care of business there. Oh, wait, we were there but all of you pussies wanted us to pull out after the blackhawk down incident.Herschel Savage

I agree that it was an invasion and now an occupation - it was never a war. The problem I have is that the invasion was 1) launched on false pretenses 2) illegal 3) in stark contrast to what the US government is supposed to represent - it's supposed to protect the freedoms of its own people. It is not and should not be involved in conquest of backward nations, especially those that don't pose a threat to us (Saddam was never a threat to us; he kept a lid on "terrorists" by ruling that region with an iron fist).
I also agree that if we began ruling with sheer brutality we could possibly get that house in order too, but how are we going to justify it to the people. Would we tell them that "We're going to slaughter many of you innocent folks along with the terrorists in order to make life better for your people some time in the future". Not to mention the moral condemnations America would face from nations around the world, on a level probably never seen before.
I don't think there is a question if we're going to leave with things still in complete disarray; it's just a matter of when. And we're all just going to sit and hope that the region somehow stabilizes itself.Comment

We had a dozen reasons to invade Iraq. There was over a dozen resolutions from the UN that they broke.
Illegal? Can someone explain to me the difference between a legal war and an illegal war? When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, was that legal? Or when the US entered Vietnam?Herschel Savage

In his defense he didn't say THE US is the most conditioned fighting machine. He mentioned that our special forces troops are. I don't agree 100%. In training we had the honor of combating with SAS troops and also the Israeli special ops and I will admit this once, I had my ass handed to me. There is a great difference between WWF or Caged fighting you see on tv and hand to hand combat with someone that knows how to kill you with every limb on their body.Do you even know what the word conditioning means? You don't think it's funny at all comparing a population of mostly obese and pampered people to a population of lean warriors? I know you're all about USA number 1 and all, but seriously. You can't really be this slow, or can you?
Although the marines and the infantry can hold their own as well in our US military. I'll never debate whether a heal stomp to the face will kill.
I do not believe many spartans would pass selections into the 18X program in the ARMY.
To those that are naive enough to believe The CIA isn't in every country, what's it like to still believe in Santa?Last edited by Rinaldo; 04-21-2007, 01:58 PM.Comment
